Seeing this on phase 8 I really like this look but definitely wore it about 15 (?) years ago, I'm 55. Is it current? Not that that would stop me wearing it but I see the phase 8 sniffiness on here...

Yes Toast is the worst of the lot.

Toast is very much a certain look (never been my look). I gather that older Toast offerings are nicer than their current ones but can’t tell as don’t browse their website.

I wear short dresses with boots. Like the look and don’t think there’s any age barrier. What I can’t stand is boots that don’t fit round the calf. They have to be fitted and not like wellies.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 27/09/2024 18:28

I’ve got a pair of over the knee black suede fringed boots (Next) that if they fit me (fat calves now) I’ll wear them with my new short black dress.

GenAvocadoOnToast · 27/09/2024 19:23

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain My black dress is classic just-above-knee cocktail dress. I have to go to a semi-formal event and be on stage and I'm TERRIFIED of falling over in heels in front of a large audience, so I really hope knee boots will look ok. I've just ordered some after an exhausting search, trying to find a pair that didn't have buckles, cowboy heels, embellishments or huge chunky soles.

@Newterm I'm with you on them having to fit around the calf. So many of this year's offerings look like wellies to my eyes.

I seem to recall knee boots and just above knee dresses and skirts being a popular look in the early-mid 90s.

Fairfax and Favor are great quality if you’ve got the budget

GenAvocadoOnToast · 27/09/2024 19:55

These are some I looked at:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/153315716040

(Had to resort to ebay to find the classic style!)

That is exactly my problem. I have a lovely slim pair from Moda In Pelle, nice and narrow!

TheGlitterFairy · 28/09/2024 07:39

I love the short dress, boots combo - wore it yesterday with biker boots and will be again today with knee high boots and tight.

on the phase 8 question - like anywhere there are nice dresses and not so nice!

Ooh thanks and that’s a good price , I’m slim fit but not extra slim leg .
hate boots that end up looking like a pair of wellies on me

Yes, I’ve got two pairs of these that I’ve had for years now. Definitely worth the investment

GenAvocadoOnToast · 28/09/2024 16:41

I've just received the Tamaris knee boots I ordered the other day and couldn't be happier. They're a perfect fit around the calves, lovely soft leather and very comfortable. I haven't had a pair of knee boots since 2018 when a cobbler ruined my beloved Vince Camuto boots, so I'm looking forward to wearing them again.

I think Phase 8 is known for a lot of mother of the bride/groom style clothing which is a style most people probably wouldn't wear day to day .

I really like the style that you've linked. I'm quite short and if I'm wearing long sleeves it's with a short skirt and thick tights. I would normally wear ankle boots but apparently taller boots are back in now (probably not the ones in my wardrobe though).
