What to wear with Halara waffle work trousers?

I’ve picked up some of the Halara waffle trousers for work and love the fit and style but am struggling with what to wear with them, especially as it’s getting cooler. I work in a school and our dress code is smart casual (but erring on the side of casual).

I’ve been wearing them with a plain tee tucked in and high top Converse, but don’t think that particularly suits me as I’m very shortwaisted and it makes me look like a pair of legs with boobs on top.

Does anyone have these trousers or similar, and if so, what do you wear on your top half?

I’m 5’4” and a size 12 with a bit of a mum tum if that helps, and can’t show midriff or cleavage for work. Have also attached a pic of the trousers in case you have somehow managed to avoid their relentless social media marketing!

I don't have these trousers but I think they would look nice with a white shirt, maybe tucked in a bit at the front and out at the back. Would prob also look nice with a chunky knit on top

Relentless marketing is right! I'm constantly about to ask Mumsnet what halara trousers are like, particularly the cords...

I keep seeing adverts for these trousers, they are awful, horrible fabric with ugly texture. They're the sort of thing I might tolerate for the gardening, not sure they're right for work.

I like the shape which is what led me to look at them when the ads kept coming up

Love the colour and agree they would look great with a white shirt if that's practical for your job. I have to say as someone who avoids ironing whenever possible they look quite creased though.

A chunky knit is a good call, thank you! A white shirt would look fab but would also only stay white for maybe the first 10 minutes of my day.

I have these and the straight leg type with a button front and like them both. I don’t think I’d pay full price for them, they are overpriced for the quality in my opinion, but there are loads on Vinted for a fraction of the price, often new with tags, so that’s a good way to try them.

I’m a 10/12 and five foot 1 - I’ve got similar styles of trousers and wear cropped chunky-ish jumpers with them plus trainers - the jumpers are more fitted as I find that if I wear them too baggy the outfit swamps me.

To be fair, my job is closer to gardening than a lot of work. Even on a good day I’m covered in whiteboard marker by lunchtime. I would never waste properly nice clothes on it, but these are perfect - they’re cheap and cheerful. but look smart enough. I just can’t figure out a decent outfit!

They’re actually great in terms of ironing (I’m also an iron avoider). They’re deeply synthetic so I wash, shake out and hang to dry and the fabric is heavy enough to pull any creases out!

I've been looking at these too. You're roughly the same height and size as me. I've also got a tummy and can be a 14 in some shops in trousers. Can I ask if you ordered the M? (Sorry no help about what to wear them with!)

Garlictest · 19/09/2024 17:59

Green fairisle cardigan, Seasalt, £76
White with green stripes and zip, TK Maxx, £13
Light green V-neck, Nobody's Child, £59
Lime green cardi-jacket, Zara, £50
Thin green cardi, Zara, £26.

{Edit] The Zara acid green one looked greener when I first saw it. This shade wouldn't go with your trousers - sadly!

I ordered the mediums first as I wear a medium in their other style trousers but they swamped me. So I resold and got some smalls and they’re just right. The waistband is snug but not too tight (it has quite a lot of stretch) and there is plenty of room elsewhere.

Thanks! That's useful to know

This is brilliant, thank you! I love the fair isle cardigan especially, though it might be a bit too nice to be snotted on by small children. I will have a search on Vinted to see if there are cheaper but similarly lovely options.

That has been my problem so far - either I’m swamped by baggy things or I tuck in and make my top half look too short.

I’ll definitely try a cropped jumper, I feel like that would work, thank you 😊
