I’ve just bought this dress in navy for a dinner in November, and wondering what shoes will work. Obviously not sandals - November. Also not suede, it’s bound to be wet. Ballet flats? Navy courts? I’m stuck!

I should have said, I’m much shorter than the model so it’s midi length on me.

Navy ballet flats.

Youmwarayoum · 16/09/2024 23:28

Definitely not flats.

Pointy courts. In grey maybe, as that’s a nice middle ground between harsh black and aging nude.

This dress needs heels, no to flats.
Maybe a contrasting colour like natural or red and a matching clutch.

Thanks for the ideas - like the idea of a contrasting colour, but then I’d have to find a bag too, and I already have a navy sequin clutch that works well. Maybe metallic? Would gold or silver look ridiculous?

Mary Janes look good but I have very high insteps and they’re often quite uncomfortable.

Of course I could go for the safety shoes just for the amusement value…

I don’t think your shoes and bag have to match. You can accessorise with earrings or a necklace, lipstick, maybe a scarf before you go inside.

CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan · 17/09/2024 15:24

Any suggestions for a necklace, urbanbuddha?

Thank you, I’m flattered to be asked.
It’s more difficult because jewellery’s quite personal but I’d go hunting on eBay.
Usual eBay caveats - check the photos carefully, zoom in, check the description, on the front page as well, don’t make assumptions and ask questions. Ask about measurements - chain length, size of the actual pendant. Check the seller’s feedback. Before you pay ask the seller to amend the postage to include Signed For. (Unless it’s buy it now and then just ask them to bill you the extra.)

I think I’d go for a drop pendant. Ideally I think I’d like a pendant a bit bigger than these look but they’re pretty and a good price.
