Trainers / footwear help how to blend in

I am 38 and have always struggled to fit in generally and also with how I dress (am autihd). What do naice mums at the school gates wear for trainers? I got some air force ones (black with neon yellow) but my tween thought that I'd got them for him 🥲 I really don't like pastels but my sister reckons that only pink / pastel air force 1s look like something mums would wear.

I know it shouldn't matter what I wear, etc. but i would like to be able to fit in to some degree as younger DCs are still at the stage where parents are arranging playdates and people are shallow!! Essentially - me mask, please?

I think whatever, depends what type of mask/vibe you're wanting to put forward?
I see lots of mums with plain white/black new balance, Vejas, white Stan smiths, or other af1 in colour ways that match what they're wearing etc
Lots of mums in sketchers or decathlon style walking shoes in my area.

Adidas Sambas are the quintessential Mum Shoe at our school.

Worn with ankle swinging straight leg jeans.

LaPalmaLlama · 15/09/2024 21:01

Deffo Vejas or Tigers round here. Some edgelords wear ugly NB in an ironic fashion but I'm nowhere near cool enough to carry that off

Mojodojocasahous · 15/09/2024 21:02

Nike Dunks, Vans or Converse here

Nomither · 15/09/2024 21:04

I'm loving Puma Speedcats atm, especially in red. Also my Hoffs are super comfy and not as ubiquitous as Adidas. Especially the Sambas since Rishie Sunak wore them 🤢

CareBear79 · 16/09/2024 10:32

Literally just want to fit in, really. I don't really want to project any specific vibe except "hi! I'm nice and am stylish but not too stylish! I just know what is reasonably fashionable" 😅 I do hate pastels though

Nobody wears Vejas anymore, so I would avoid those. In my central London primary the mums where adidas sambas and expensive Nike and Hoka trainers. Lots of dressing like you’re going to the gym when you’re not.

I agree that pale colours are more fashionable. Nobody wears black trainers.

At dgs school mums wear all sorts. I can't remember any standing out.

Its mainly black trainers worn here, nb327, sambas, gazelles, spezials, onitsuka mexico 66, converse & vans. Spezials are really comfortable. I've just ordered some waterproof winter converse, I find black cons go with everything but my feet get cold in the normal ones in winter 😄

I had no idea Hokas were fashionable. I simply wear them because they are so comfortable for my problematic feet, have done for years!

I was wondering this as I waited today so looked. It seems to be addidas with the 3 stripes. Samba or gazelles

CareBear79 · 23/09/2024 08:13

Thanks all... I haven't even heard of half of these brands!! Might get some Adidas. Shame about the paler colours as I really don't like them!!

I have seen quite a lot of gym wear but I don't think it would work for me as I'm a bit hefty... (I think I will start a separate thread about this!)

I had some Gazelles in the 90s but they made my feet look enormous so that would be my main issue... Are there any that make feet look smaller? This was why I liked the Nike ones.

Well I like Vejas!
