Are slim leg trousers still 'in' or is it all wide leg?

I'm in a quandary.
All trousers now seem to be wide leg/ flares/bootleg and for me it feels like going back in time.

I'm petite and baggy trousers tend to swamp me, but on the other hand I don't want to look dated. I've some girlfriend jeans which I've had compliments on (from my trendy DIL) .

I don't wear smart trousers that often, and not sure I want to invest in a pair anyway, but wonder if it's very dated to wear straight legs/ cigarette legs?

Straight legs are everywhere.

Straight legs are everywhere.

Are they? All the online shops etc I look at are full of very wide leg trousers.

Straight/cigarette cut aren't actively in right now, but they certainly aren't out. A slightly cropped cigarette still feels current.

I have definitely seen straight leg trousers and jeans at Uniqlo, H and M and M and S.

Tbh I'm still seeing skinny jeans everywhere. I wanted to try on flares at the weekend and couldn't find any in town - just rows and rows of skinnies and a few wide.

I think at the moment anything goes - it's more about how you style them. Wide legs are definitely 'in', but straight/slim legs are absolutely fine.

These are my favourite iteration of the ‘new straight leg’.

They look great on the model but I’m not rushing towards this style. Absolutely love wide / baggy trousers and am looking forward to a winter swathed in acres of 8 wale cord and heavy wool flannel.

@MetaDaughter blimey , for over £400 you could have trousers hand made for you.

VenusClapTrap · 11/09/2024 10:49

I love those. Not spending that though.

I'd say slim isn't very in at the moment, it's more looser shapes. You are supposed to look luxe and effortless, or baggy and cool.

Said as someone who also gets swamped easily in clothes and who will continue to wear slim shapes as well as others.

Zara has several straight legs. www.zara.com/uk/en/woman-trousers-straight-l5387.html
