Which jumper style to wear with wide leg jeans?

Now it’s cooler and I’ve started wearing jumpers again I’m struggling with what style to wear with wider leg jeans. My sweatshirts are generally oversized, longer length which look fine with leggings or skinny jeans but I feel I look a bit like a sack of potatoes with baggy jumpers and baggier jeans!

My general rule is: wider bottoms = slimmer top and slimmer fit bottom = baggier fit top.

So with my wide legged jeans I wear shorter not too baggy jumpers or cardigans. Usually cashmere as I find they are warmer and I don’t need to wash them as often. Sometimes boxy fit but always sitting at the waist of the jeans / slightly tucked in

They need to be small and neat

I either go fitted jumper (i like Joanie for this, they have some nice ones) or if it's a baggy top it needs to be cropped so you still go in at the waist.
I have a couple of sweatshirts that are baggy but cropped to the waist so don't give that schlumpy effect!

Need to show your waist

So either:
1 fitted all over
2 boxy/batwing/oversized, but cropped (ie waist length)
3 oversized and longer, but tucked in - at least a French tuck.

3 doesn’t work if there’s too much fabric to tuck though

Yep agree with PPs, for wide bottoms go for either fitted fine knit jumpers or something boxier/looser but either cropped or tucked. I do like loose fit jumpers with relaxed jeans though (so basically neither top or bottom are oversized).

I’d favour a close fitting t shirt or top tucked in with a belt and then a short and fitted cardigan or a fitted jumper.

Something short.

Short boxy jumpers or tucked in and pulled out a little to drape a bit over the belt.
I don’t really have a waist.

Much of the youth are tending to go baggy all over I believe 😅

I have a few nice thin cashmere ones that are fitted but not clingy, they end just below my waist and I can either wear a vest or long sleeved top under them, although due to meno heat the latter is unlikley.
If you don't want Cashmere have a look at the merino ones in Uniqlo

This works if you’re clearly tall and slim under the clothes! Not so much otherwise…

I love a loose fitted jumper with wide legged trousers / jeans! Very comfy and looks casual and cool (I think anyway?!)

I've got a couple of mock neck sweaters from & other Stories
I wear with a thin thermal (or base layer as they are called these days!) to stop itching.
