Can you talk me through the 'accessory sandwich' please?

I just heard someone on the train telling her friend that she always goes for 'the accessory sandwich' method to make her feel well put together. I know I could Google but thought you fine folks would be a better bet. Pictures would be good too!

Disclaimer: I am useless in the style stakes and I'd love to get myself together a bit.

I've never heard of an accessory sandwich but a regular sandwich is when you have the same colour on the top and bottom and another in between (eg blue top and shoes, black trousers).

have a look at this blog post - she calls it bookending.

what i find useful with doing something like this is to stick to a similar colour palette. i haven't had my colours done officially, but i worked out what my season was, so i tend to buy clothes in 'my' colours, or neutrals, so that i can mix and match.

i tend to stick to gold jewellery, but i like hair accessories like headbands and clips and these are a cheap way of adding a bit of colour - you can buy accessories cheaply on shein.

It looks like you need loads of coloured shoes for this to work

Shakenandstirredup · 08/09/2024 09:54

you need lots of different coloured shoes & outwear to do this particularly in AW so not that practical really! I do happen to have a lot of coloured trainers & bright scarfs so I sometimes match those depending on what else I’m wearing.

This is what my mum calls ‘matchy matchy’ and I know it would make me look old fashioned and twee.

I always thought matchy, matchy was matching your handbag to your shoes? Or all accessories including nails, earrings etc the one colour?
