Help me find a winter coat - I'm going crazy doom scrolling trying to find one!

I am in desperate need of a new winter coat! Especially since DH left mine accidentally at a carpark when unloading some suitcases and it was never to be seen again.

I am short - 5'2, so all the long coats absolutely drown me and it's like some weird coat wedding cress train, so ideally it would be above knee length.

I'd like something good quality and ideally not polyester.

I'm open to most colours, but prefer blacks, greys, browns, navy - all the boring colours that are easy to match. Nothing super neon.

I have bigger boobs so it's need to accommodate them without drowning the rest of me, so tailored/fitted tends to look a bit better on me (the oversized coats look like potato sacks with my boobs creating a ski ramp). But it does mean some lapel styles can look funny when they sit by my chest.

I am open to most styles, but I am a bit more 'rock/casual/simple chic'. I'm also open to various styles from sherling coats to wool coats or even a nice padded one.

Ideally it will be something I can wear to most places, so works dressed up for work events but also dressed down on a Sunday morning.

Would anyone be able to help, I am going mad searching through countless pages on Google and various sites. The last time I bought a coat was 8 years ago, I could really use a refresh, especially since I don't have a coat for this season anymore!

Budget is flexible for the right coat, happy to go up to £400ish, but ideally around the £200 mark.

Have you checked Seasalt?

MavisTheMonkey · 02/09/2024 21:14

I'm eyeing this coat up, might work for you or Karen Millen have quite a few petite coat options

Will it be your only winter coat? Do you need it to be waterproof? And how warm (what works would be different if you’re in the SE of England or Scotland?).

I have a Rainsisters coat and it's worth every penny. Stands up to torrential west coast of Scotland rain daily and looks amazing. I'm also 5'2, dress size 10/12 with J cup boobs and wear a petite medium. Love it so much! I have the dark green.

Thank you everyone so far! Answering some questions.

I just checked Seasalt and nothing seems to be calling to me. Maybe the duffle coat at a push.

I'm in SE and commute occasionally to London so much more urban/suburban and milder temperatures.

Doesn't need to also be my raincoat.

Oooo I'm undecided on the Karen Millen one, but definitely will check out the petite range. I did check them out. Whole back, but maybe they have some new additions.

The Hobbs one is nice too! Do you find it keeps you warm with only 2 buttons? My fear when looking at the 2 button coats is that the cold air gets through.

I've never heard of Rainsisters, will check them out now!

I love Zara or La Redoute for tailored winter coats. I’ve not looked this year as have one camel and one navy wool coat plus a Macintosh for wet walks.

I was just coming here to ask the OP if she’s looked at RainSisters! I don’t have one but I’m desperate to get one at some point. They re just so gorgeous and I can totally see myself sashaying down the local High St in it 😁🤣

singingthypraises · 02/09/2024 23:57

@CaveMum It's my best purchase this past year. So flattering and definitely feels amazing to sashay along the street in. I saved up for mine and now I want another cos they're so nice! Hope you get yours soon too and enjoy it!

@december2020 Not sure must web sites have all their costs in yet! It’s a bit early, M&S will have standard decent affordable coats. Look at Jaeger if you want better quality. They will last! Maybe a flared style?

Tezza1 · 03/09/2024 04:36

@MavisTheMonkey I love that coat. The mix of padding and trench works so well, and it looks so sharp. I have been eyeing off a new trench coat for a couple of months, and that appeals more than anything I've seen. I'm so sorely tempted, but I live in Sydney, and sadly it's too heavy for me to get sufficient use nowadays to justify having it take up space.

BiliousOhGod · 03/09/2024 10:23

Rainsisters are fabulous, and if you can wait, have a Black Friday sale which is very good. Buy direct, not from Wolf & Badger.

Twilightstarbright · 05/09/2024 17:15

I ordered a Rainsisters coat and I love it! Looks fab and I almost want it to rain now 😂

singingthypraises · 05/09/2024 17:46

@Twilightstarbright which one did you go for? They are the best, I'm so tempted to buy a second one. Always feels amazing every wear!
