Ok, picture a short fat female version of Neil from The Young Ones. That's me. I haven't had a haircut for 8 months, and that was only a trim. My hair has no shape, no style, it just hangs there halfway down my back, straight and mousy.

Now, what I want is hair like this (spotted last night on "Dawn Gets Naked"- she was the beauty therapist giving Dawn a bikini wax)

My questions are: would it suit someone with a round (fat!) face or would I need to ask for a longer style? And what exactly do I ask the hairdresser for?

Thanks!

I am no expert - for years I had longish all one length hair - but then a hairdresser suggested layers and I've never looked back. My hair has a bit of a natural wave anyway but long layers give it lots of movement and a bit more shape. So overall length is that it rests on my shoulders, with long layers that frame the face and add texture to the style.

And I'm sure you don't look like Neil from the Young Ones! but I'm a size 16 with a plump face and I think my hair sets it off pretty well. I wouldn't be comfortable going much shorter than it is at the moment though.

Thanks Slayerette, so just ask for long face framing layers then?

Anyone else got any opinions/tips?

Looks lovely.. I think it would suit someone with a round face because the volume is below the jaw line (sounds like wanky bollocks but I know what I mean ?!)

Print the pic off and take it with you - much easier than trying to explain it

That's the thing, I don't have a printer! it'd be so easy if I did... oh well! got to get ready and go now, I'll let you know how it goes and if it looks anything remotely like the picture!!!

Back, it's nice but it's nothing like that picture!!! I did try to explain, but she's cut it much longer than that photo, with long subtle layers which don't flick up. It looks a lot neater and better so I won't moan, but next time I'll definitely print a picture of what I'm trying to achieve!

Glad its nice though... Long subtle layers are usually a bit lower maintenance. I'm a bit of a saddo - I love looking at hair magazines
