What do you wear with wide leg trousers/jeans?

I'd quite like to embrace the wide leg trouser look that lots of women are wearing now, but I'm a bit unsure what to wear with them.

Most of my tops are loose fit and hip length which I wear with jeggings or slim combats, or I wear dresses. I don't have much of a waist as I have a tummy (specifically the spare tyre between bust and waist) - so I buy dresses that fit under the bust then flare out, or shift dresses and tops that skim over the stomach.

A "cropped" top seems too short, standard top is either too fitted (for my comfort) or too long to wear with wide leg trousers. I see ladies larger than me (I'm a 20) looking really nice in them though, do I need to get over my fear of something clinging to the spare tyre? What should I search for on Vinted!

I wear wide leg jeans and tend to wear a more fitted top on top to balance my figure out.

Well that's the thing, after years of skimming over or disguising the weight that has accumulated around my middle, the thought of anything fitted fills me with horror. If one carries weight ABOVE the waist and under the bust, where do the trousers sit?!

I've also a bit short at 5'2, and short waisted - most of the comfy wide legs nowadays I'd have to pull up to my bust under a top otherwise there's a good 4 inches dragging on the ground.

A body suit https://www.boohoo.com/plus-slinky-wrap-over-bodysuit/PZZ80276.html

I also have a tummy at the minute because I'm ten weeks post partum. I wear wide leg high waist jeans and trousers at the minute, and don't want fitted tops because I don't like my arms and belly atm. This top from Zara works so well and hides a multitude of sins

I'm a 20 as well and love the loose, wide legged trousers, all elasticated and probably made of 100% plastic 😬 I

I wear a tshirt that sits at mid of my hips, not loose or tight fitted but shaped to give a bit of a hint that I have a waist somewhere underneath and that im not a rectangle!

Baggy, long tops make me look like a binbag. Short, tight tshirts make me look like I didn't look in the mirror!

Thank you for those links! I see that beautiful blonde model (wearing the bodysuit) in all the UK plus size sites but she barely looks more than a 14. <envy> Do you notice plus-size models always have wide hips and thighs but are always prettily petite on top? They never look like a wrestler do they, with a large chest and arms!

I'm not sure my 36H bosoms would look great with anything super tight, like I'm smuggling melons. But I could handle a looser t shirt - I do have one but it's a 22 for walking the dog so actually it's too loose.

I'll have a rummage for some old tees that I shoved into a drawer for being too tight or short. I think I'm gonna have to go outside my comfort zone @OldTinHat !

I’m short and wear wide legs with a fitted or tucked in T shirt and a cropped jumper (either fitted or batwing/boxy). Anything baggy or long on top and I just look like I’m drowning in the clothes.

However - I have a small/slim torso and large bum and thighs. Opposite of you, I guess. So the loose trousers and tight top works for me. In your shoes, I’d forget the wide legs and stick to loose tops and skinny trousers/shorts/short skirt - these look awful on me.

Maybe a top like the one the plus size model wears modelling these jeans

I wear wide leg jeans with a box t-shirt and fitted cardigan for a more relaxed look. If you’re concerned about your stomach you could wear a belt with it as that will help to create a nice shape and will also balance your outfit.

I also like to wear long sleeve tops tucked in the waist. That’s quite flattering as well.

My general rule for high waisted trousers is: wear a belt and always tuck in at the waist as that helps to create a more flattering look.

Hope this helps!

It does, thank you 😊

I do a French tuck quite often. It gives a bit of shape/definition without being too clingy.
