Your favourite nail varnish

I love nail varnish, I paint my own natural nails and have done for years, I feel naked without a colour! I hate the chipping that comes with natural nails rather than salon done. (I’ve had salon gems before but it weakened my nails which overall are pretty good so I prefer doing my own)

My favourite colours are blue, green, purple and black. I love a matte finish but also like a gel finish. Around Christmas I like a glitter overlay but it is a bit of a bastard to get off!!

I currently like Nails Inc plant based shades, I am not vegan but I’ve found that they really hold up and some of the shades are very bright. Also love My Mood in shade ‘peace’ (blue) and Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine in ‘pear’ (green) Rita Ora did a lovely matte black for Rimmel but I found it chips easily.

I’m always looking for decent polishes. So my question is, what are your go to nail brands and shades and why?

To add to this I’d love to find a denim blue shade, like a mid navy denim type but cannot find one anywhere so if anyone has any suggestions I’d be happy to hear!

Nail Inc Porchester square. The very best nude. Goes with absolutely everything. Looks very classy.

Silviasilvertoes · 28/08/2024 19:08

Holy Grail Nail wraps. I don’t bother with polish any more. They’re easy to apply and peel off without damaging your nails. Mine last up to a week. Their gels last me three weeks but you have to remove them properly otherwise they will damage your nails.

I looked at Porchester Square a few times, it does look a decent everyday shade

I haven’t heard of these before! How do you apply the wraps, do you need to cut them to size?

Essie: Caught in the Rain, (gel couture) Atelier at the Bay, Ladylike

Barry M: Eucalyptus, Party Ring, Bluebell

Rimmel: (Kind&Free) Lavender Light

OPI: Purple with a Purpose

ShittyTitty · 28/08/2024 21:53

Anything from Nailberry. Great quality long lasting and beautiful colours.

NCfor24 · 28/08/2024 21:54

I think Nails Inc apply the smoothest and self level (?) the best. I think the sets that QVC sell are the best value and they had one last week with decent blues in I think...off to look...
I've also liked Orly in the past but don't have any currently.

Not seen a few of these before. I love the Party Ring, Bluebell, Lavender and Purple with a Purpose. I shall add these to my next nail varnish shop 💅

Ive had Orly before and one thing I will say is although a bit pricey, they never seem to dry out! I’ve got a couple of bottles I’ve had for 8 years now and genuinely they are as ‘runny’ and fresh as new. Does chip after a few days but definitely a hardcore stayer 💪🏽

The shades in the image aren't the ones on sale from the description!

There are some nice shades in there, the darker ones are lovely! Not bought Orly in a while but they do last well!!

I'm a fan of Jessica, but do use base coat and top coat if I want it to last.

Summerhillsquare · 28/08/2024 22:15

I think application technique helps with staying power. I do one coat before bed, another in the morning, lots of hand cream in between.

Having said that I recently bought Chanel on a win and a single coat lasts for days - I'm a convert!

Carsarelife · 28/08/2024 22:19

I always buy Sally Hansen Insta Dri. Really does dry quickly and lovely colours. I wear red, black, blue and recently bought khaki and taupe which are lovely

I’ve never tried doing it this way! Might help. I’ve also never tried Chanel polish, might be worth a look!

I tried to get the insta-dri khaki before it’s been sold out near me when I’ve looked. Looks a great colour. Does it last more than a couple of days?

I find nails inc chips on me, but really like Essie.

I’ve some really old Chanel polishes that are still 👍

FriendsDrinkBook · 28/08/2024 22:40

A England polish is beautiful , very good quality and long lasting.

Holo taco is also good. The one coat black and the shade Indigo away are favourites.

For something cheaper try maybeline polishes. They are very good quality for the price. They do a very good mid blue shade , I forget what it's called , but it's a bit denim like.
