How to get started buying on Vinted, what to avoid, etc? Sorry, noob!

I can't find a more appropriate place to post this ('Shopping' appears to be full of discount code threads and loads of threads nobody replies to...). I've been buying clothes (and lots besides) on eBay for decades. I've never actually bought anything on Vinted. I have NO idea what to look out for, what's obviously a scam, what protections I have, how payment works, etc. I've registered and got some things favourited but I'm a bit nervous to actually start. And I need to get some decent, nice-coloured shirts for DS1 pretty quickly, as he's about to start 6th form and needs 'smart work clothes' and has hated wearing nasty white poly cotton shirts for the last 5 years! Grin I'd like to get him some Uniqlo shirts which are currently £40 in store, plus I always try to buy 2nd hand when I can.

So - please treat me nicely and get me started? Smile

I would check the seller's rating before buying. Also only buy stuff with good, clear pictures. Payment is pretty straightforward, the Vinted fees are shown alongside the item's price. Postage is extra and paid by the buyer. You can make offers and this is standard on Vinted.

I buy things clearly in excellent condition, from brands I know my size in.

For me it's a good way to buy things from brands that are normally out of my price range.

an offer isn’t binding, you can make an offer to a seller and they can accept, decline or counter offer. If they accept, you still have to decide whether to buy at that price!

Thanks! I can't see any indication on listings about what postage might be - how do you find that out before making an offer or going ahead and buying?

Also - does Vinted 'do' Paypal? Can't see an option. I don't actually have credit cards myself, just debit.

Vinted is so easy to use as both buyer and seller. When you do a search limit condition to very good/new without tags/new with tags. Funds only transfer to the seller after you receive and confirm all is as expected. Prices massively vary - some people just want to get rid, others will hold out for the price they are looking for.

Postage - scroll down the listing

Payment - you need to link your account to a bank card. I'm not sure it can be a debit card or if you can only use a credit card.

You can use a Debit card as payment
I love vinted and have had some amazing bargains
Treat the favourites like an eBay watch list
When you press buy you are shown the delivery options( press first one to display options)
You can always do a dummy run without pressing buy at checkout
I always choose brands I know the fit of
You can use filters for materials, brands, colours etc to narrow it down

If you like uniqlo shirts and know what size you'd buy search for those. Then notice how they're described (eg.men's fitted shirt cotton, smart casual etc) and keep amending your search terms.. if you find something you like and the right size favourite it and also scroll down and look at the seller's other items. Likely to be the same size and something else in another brand might catch your eye.

You can make an offer and negotiate. Also sellers will give uou a discount for a bundle of two or more items.

Thanks everyone! Just bought my first item. 😀
