That’s it really. What do you do to keep yours in good nick?
I am 56 so not expecting miracles. Just less like I would be at home in a coop😩😳

I don't look at them - why would I?

I'm 60.

HTH.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/08/2024 18:57

Mine have been getting very dry recently, so I've been using flexitol on them - it's not just great for cracked feet! Knees and occasionally the backs of my arms too.

Will get some thanks!

Blimey, I can't stop looking at mine.
In fact, I have strained my neck with the constant perusaling of them.

Actually I don't do it all the time, mainly during as-breaks on the telly, and, of course, during the night if I get up to go to the toilet.

Now, my knees...that's another story!

Yeah I don't look at mine either and can't say I've noticed anyone else's either...? I'm just looking around at some people on the street now and their elbows all look about the same, an elbow is an elbow.

If it's something you're very self conscious of though, you could just wear long sleeves.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/08/2024 19:13

I don't look at mine (my arms are flexible but not that bendy!😂) - I was feeling the roughness when applying sun cream.

BigButtons · 17/08/2024 19:35

My arms are very toned from weight lifting. I like to show them off. My elbows are shocking though.

Half a lemon with salt in to exfoliate then lashings of moisturiser. Not to be confused with your arse 😂

Shuttheblinds · 18/08/2024 00:37

I use hylaurolic acid on mine and it’s made a difference. Pour it on cotton will and wipe over. It’s also got rid of bumps on my arms. I don’t use an expensive one, just The Ordinary.

No it doesn't help at all

Hucklemuckle · 18/08/2024 06:25

OP the skin on elbows is thicker and rougher as I'm sure you have figured.

Using a moisturiser with aha/bha like this one makes a huge difference.

Will reduce pigmentation and gently remove dead skin cells whilst moisturising.

mammazitta · 18/08/2024 08:14

A Korean washcloth is perfect for this. Can get them on Amazon or EBay for £5 for 4. The green is the standard washcloth, but you can get others that are more abrasive. Use once a week all over your body, you will see rolls of dead skin coming away. Then follow up with a moisturiser. I like the Dove ProAge (red bottle) as it contains 20% AHA acids to help chemically exfoliate. Smells nice and leaves skin feeling great. Always on offer in Superdrug

My New Year's resolution this year was to 'tackle' my elbows. Every morning in the shower I've given both elbows (at the same time, saves time) a rub with some exfoliant in the palm of my hand. If you don't have anything to hand a sprinkle of sugar, or crystals salt or magnesium does the job

I love using salt crystals suspended in almond oil but it does get a bit messy so use l'occitane almond shower oil.

Follow that with Palmers cocoa butter therapy oil all over including the elbows. For the first time I can remember my elbows just look normal rather than scaly like a dinosaur

The half lemon trick above works well too but I feel I need to shower again afterwards so get it all done at once

DrunkTinkerbell40s · 18/08/2024 09:18

What do you currently do to them?

If you don't do anything I would just start moisturising them. Mine get very dry, my husband calls them my 'old bits' and plays with them which I HATE!!

I now put moisturiser on them every day whenever I go to the loo and they are sooooo much softer. Any moisturiser will do, just something. I tend to use a hand cream.

dudsville · 18/08/2024 09:26

I agree with the pp asking what you do currently, and if nothing then start moisturising. I have very dry skin. After every hand washing I apply moisturiser, and I always do my elbows then too. If I don't, then they get itchy.

ApolloandDaphne · 18/08/2024 09:30

I'm 61 and my elbows are lovely and smooth. I moisturise them every day as part of my morning routine.

Currently nothing at all😳
my mum used to say we should moisturise our elbows when we do our face.
I will get on to the exfoliating and moisturise straight after the bath.

Thanks for all the advice.
normally of course they are hidden by long sleeve tops and I don’t give them a second thought.
I caught sight of them in a mirror and was shocked at how rough and prune like they are.
I like the sound of the exfoliating cloths too🙂

Having looked at exfoliating wash cloths on Amazon I really want the Goshi Japanese exfoliating towel.
gets excellent reviews but is rather pricey.

Honestly I dont think Ive ever looked at anybody and thought 'well, they would be really pretty....if not for the elbows!'😅

Mine are shocking too (but I dont care), mainly I think because I lean them on my desk too much.
So Id probably make sure you arent causing rough skin with what you are doing then just moisturise....alot!
