Is there any way at all I can make this top work for me?

I love tank tops, I keep buying them and never been able to wear them because they're so unflattering on me

I'm a size 12 but have big boobs (32h). I've tried wearing it with a really thin tight top underneath and it still looks really thick on me

I have no problem in normal jumpers and wear them all the time

Am I missing something?

Not big boobed but generally large chested. The only way I can wear tank tops is when they are very long to balance me out proportionally. That one is particularly stumpy and will be all boob. The only thing I can think is to get one that's oversized and Taylor it to fit your waist but this will depend on the style if it's even possible.

The other option is to just wear what you like?!

LaurieFairyCake · 15/08/2024 07:27

God, I think you're right - it is a short top !

I could 'wear what I like' but every time I do it feels very unnatural 🤦‍♀️ It's definitely an age thing as I've now been wearing 'only what flatters me' for 40 years

I've been forcing myself to wear cropped wide trousers for last 2 years as I love them but they look dreadful on me when I catch myself in a shop window

Mmmmm I don't think that would look very good on anyone tbh. Maybe ditch the tank tops and wear something that suits your shape.

Yes same here, I think it’s also because they emphasise the shoulders adding to the top heavy look. I gave up on tank tops years ago.

You could wear a blazer over it?

isthismylifenow · 15/08/2024 09:12

I am a tank fan. I have bought numerous but parted with them again when I couldn't get them to work.

I kept one which is a bit more oversized, and I wear it with a long sleeve tight fitting tee underneath, and do a bit of a french tuck to try to balance it a bit.

Have you tried tucking it? I have small boobs though so I am not sure if this would work for you.

I think tank tops are basically quite a boyish look and work best on the flat among us - if your upper body is curvy it works against the straight lines of the look.

GreatDarkWing · 15/08/2024 10:19

Although that particular one is just not a good top, in my view! It looks actively bad on the model.

GoingRoundThatBlockAgain · 15/08/2024 10:22

I think the issue with that particular one is the stripes. It makes it look wider, especially when combined with the short length. Have you tried it with a reddy coloured top underneath to lessen the contrast?

LoobyDoop2 · 15/08/2024 14:45

It looks chunky on the model, and presumably she is very slim. I think it’s just not very well-shaped.

dbeuowlxb173939 · 15/08/2024 15:35

Try one with a v neck and no stripes

OneFrenchEgg · 15/08/2024 15:44

I wear mine over a long plain shirt. So material from shirt visible past tank top end

JustCleaningtheBBQ · 15/08/2024 19:33

I have this one from Jigsaw. It's the only one that has ever looked good on me, but that's probably because it's plain, black and has a v-neck. I'm 5' 3 so it's not cropped on me, just sits nicely on my hips.

I found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think? https://www.johnlewis.com/jigsaw-cropped-v-neck-linen-slub-tank-top/p111724093?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&sshare=jlappioss_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5LkNvcHlUb1Bhc3RlYm9hcmQ=

Not sure where that text "I found this at John Lewis" came from, I didn't type it in?

Wrong!
It would look good on someone.
