Where can I get a dress custom made?

I want a special dress for a family wedding. I'm a difficult shape so it's hard for me to just buy something, or even to get it altered to fit.

I can see some Etsy shops which offer this service but the fabrics are generally plain and I want to pick a pretty patterned fabric.

So either an actual dressmaker (I'm based in London), or an online shop with more options.

Budget up to about £600 probably, including the fabric. Is that sufficient?

If in London, go either east London or West London and you can find loose material and get something tailor made or something already made and adjusted to your body shape.

Try Dig For Victory dresses in Brighton - either go in person or use their online service. They are absolutely wonderful, and I've recommended them to a few people, all of whom have loved them. Their customer service is fantastic.

They have a particular set of styles to choose from, so it depends if you like their style, but it's all made to measure and you can make lots of tweaks to the styles and combine elements in different ways.

My bespoke, made to measure, silk wedding dress was £400 (in 2018).

They also have a wide range of fabrics (they buy up roll ends and vintage fabrics), and they can advise on what they have at the moment if you contact them. Good luck!

Thanks, is there a particular tailor you would recommend?

Just find a local seamstress. They can work from a pattern for you and tweak it to be what you want.

There is one in southall upstairs of the himalayan shopping centre.
