are those 'whitening' eye drops bad for your eyes if used frequently?

lack of sleep gives me horrendous red eye which makes me look like old hag.

I've heard - I don't know for sure if this is true - that they work by constricting the blood vessels in your eye, and that prolonged use can permanently weaken the blood vessels. I suppose this means that you end up looking more bloodshot than ever..

I try to restrict their use to parties etc, and at other times just use the refreshing/moisturing (non-whitening) drops.

ah yes, that sounds logical.
