Let's talk summer dresses

Look at this in the not-so-big stripes. Isn't it a fab summer dress? Any other fab summer dresses out there? (Just on the vague offchance that we get a summer this year, that is...)

I've just ordered this one.

I'm a Boden size 12 and just under 5'3" and I get a good fit from the dresses. They give the measurements of each item on their website. I like dresses to cover my knees, or at least mostly so I like the regular length. Might be different if you have good pins.

But exasperated to discover that cardy I ordered last week has shot up from 1 week wait to 7 week wait as it has been in Good Housekeeping. I fear I will be cancelling that order and choosing a different one ;). Also as I am 41 I'm eager not to look like I dress from GH, sigh. Which I pretend I don't want to read and devour like a sad git at first sight.

Fit is fine - I am not much taller than you, and the regular size comes to my knees.

Gingerbear · 15/04/2008 22:10

Ooh, Joe Browns - new website to me - I love the stuff on there!

TillyScoutsmum · 15/04/2008 22:14

Beware GB - I only discovered it a few weeks ago and have already got a bit carried away

I am quite rubbish when it comes to wearing skirts/dresses even in the height of summer. Jeans also seem so much easier somehow. However some lovely dresses here maybe I'll go shopping. Before I do have to ask about shoes...
What kind of shoes would you choose to wear with these dresses?

Personally love ballet pump type shoes at the moment. Comfortable but still pretty. Wedges are good for dressing them up

TillyScoutsmum · 15/04/2008 22:30

or flip flops in the summer

turquoise · 15/04/2008 22:34

I love joe Browns - their jeans are fantastic.

Really like that Joules dress too, am a bit about the price though, since all their other dresses are about twice as much. Think I may have to get one and see!

Quite fancy this dress from Boden but am reminding myself that their adult stuff is bad quality and badly fitting these days.

hoxtonchick · 15/04/2008 22:50

Gingerbear · 16/04/2008 01:14

MotherofUBERboys · 16/04/2008 08:51

fishie · 16/04/2008 09:46

turquoise that boden dress looks ok, with 11% off. i might try it, have a terrible weakness for pockets.

SilentTerror · 16/04/2008 09:58

I've just received the Boden green spotty dress.I tis very nice,I tend to go up a size in Boden dresses/tops that are fitted,as they are quite tight around the body on me.
Love the crinkle one too,but can't decide what print!

jumpingbeans · 16/04/2008 10:00

I think it looks a bit like a 50s style apron, but hey what do i know of fashion

FeverishFish · 16/04/2008 10:10

I DONT LIEK ANY OF THEM
help me
most of them are a bit "ladeeeeeeeeee" for me
and then the joe browns ones look all hiippy dippy

fishie · 16/04/2008 10:24

i've got this one is jolly nice but i had to go down a size so there is slight indignity putting on and off.

fishie · 16/04/2008 10:30

how about esprit? stupid non-linky site. dresses /empire /printed cotton dress with blue flowers (£42 bit dear)

don't know why she is fiddling with her ear.

hoxtonchick · 16/04/2008 10:36

i have that fatface one too fishie . they do such vanity sizing...

hoxtonchick · 16/04/2008 10:37

we are if we ever sell the house uberboys. no luck yet. the for sale sign has gone from your house, but it's still on the foxtons website.

fishie · 16/04/2008 10:41

i've got one of those esprit empire jobs too, the gathered jersey in dark blue. longing for dress weather, have never had so many!

do we think that boden one would be good for bunging over swimming costume and running around with small boy? i cannot face a kaftan.

hoxtonchick · 16/04/2008 10:44

empire one v pretty. i haven't shopped in esprit for years, used to really like their stuff.

which boden one? i think the one i've got is more formal, the pockety one looks good & practical for the park.

fishie · 16/04/2008 10:45

pockets. in blue. although the red is rather nice too...

hoxtonchick · 16/04/2008 10:46

go for it!
