Is this suit nice - or is black nicer?

I'm finding myself back in the office 1 or 2 days a week, and I miss wearing suits and smart dresses, so i'm going back to that. I'm only 5ft tall as as everything petite seems long nowadays, I thought this cropped suit might work well.

Thoughts on the green?

Or play safe with the black version...

And if anyone can direct me to a nice (probably) black fitted knee length work dress - you'll get an extra star ;)

If that shade of green suits you, it’s much more interesting (and probably nicer) than black. It wouldn’t work on me, but I wish it would!

Summerhillsquare · 12/08/2024 19:16

It doesn't look cropped to me? I don't think that cut would flatter us short arses.

StormingNorman · 12/08/2024 19:17

That jacket might come up quite long on a five footer.

Everyoneesleistheproblem · 12/08/2024 19:18

Love love love the green. Much cooler than the black.

Purplecatshopaholic · 12/08/2024 19:34

Defo go for the green. V classy.

startingoveragainagain · 12/08/2024 21:15

@Wildermess I think the length may be ok, the model is 5ft 10, so 10inches shorter could be fine. I'm thinking linen is more of a summer fabric, and i guess i'm thinking more autumn/winter.

@StormingNorman I'm a little worried it might be, I was so focused on the trousers, that didnt really the notice of the jacket.

Only problem with the green is that it's very memorable. So if it's your only suit, it'll be obvious. No one pays any attention to navy or black, so you have more leeway.

Oblomov24 · 12/08/2024 21:35

I like it.

I don't know if it looks cropped to you.
I believe the trousers are cropped which will shorten the leg, but if OP wears heels that won't matter.
It's a great colour, a change from black. A good neutral.

Greategret · 13/08/2024 06:34

It doesn't every look that great on a 5 foot 10 model. There's something a bit odd about the proportions. I am thinking it would look considerably worse on somebody quite short.

Alifemadelessordinary · 13/08/2024 06:39

I have this exact suit jacket albeit in a different colour and it is very long line. I'm 5'7" and it looks quite long on me.

Lovely quality though. Although I did buy mine for £25 on Vinted. I never buy All Saints full price. OP if you like it and can wait. It may be worth waiting for the sales.

rookiemere · 13/08/2024 07:27

I think black workwear can look a bit dated these days, so the green is definitely a more modern take on it. I like it and I think the colour will work with most others.

Jessieshome · 13/08/2024 15:05

There's a lovely woman on Instagram called 5ft Fashion Fairy, who mostly reviews and shows high street clothes and often smart work clothes, sophisticated casual and also party frocks and 'day at the races' type dresses and outfits. She's really great, I recommend having a look at her for ideas and inspiration.

startingoveragainagain · 13/08/2024 22:11

@Jessieshome thank you! I've followed her, so hard to find good petite people to follow.

I like the green but the leg shape seems a bit old fashioned. I'd go with something wide legged.

venus7 · 14/08/2024 08:29

Fairly good shape, but it's polybloodyester........won't hang well, clean well, or age well.

harriethoyle · 14/08/2024 11:40

@startingoveragainagain try the Pretty Dress Company. Lots of tailored dresses, machine washable, wear really well. I've got 6 or so that I rotate for work. It's just like school uniform!

FriendlyNeighbourhoodAccountant · 14/08/2024 11:48

I think considering the price doesn't include the trousers you could probably find something nicer for the same budget. And although it might be more cropped on your height, I'd be worried the arm length would be a bit off.

BobbyBiscuits · 14/08/2024 11:50

I love the green. I wear a lot of colours that would go with it so I'd go for that. Black is nice too. Get both! Lol.
I guess black might age better...
