Has hairdresser done a rubbish job?

Naturally dark
Had quite a root
Went and got a t section
And the highlights are so fine
You can still see loads of dark
Do you think this looks a bit rubbish ?

I like it, it looks natural.
Did you want more or it lighter?
I think going careful the first time is advisable.
Next time you go ask for more or chunkier ones.
You can always try to brighten it up with purple shampoo

There’s too much of a line - it doesn’t look terrible, just grown out, but I would make them do the job you paid for.

Green777 · 07/08/2024 18:52

It would have looked fine but needed a lot more of the fine highlights. I’d tell them you’re not happy and would like more highlights.

Sera1989 · 07/08/2024 18:53

Much better than thick chunky highlights, I don't think it looks bad at all. But was it what you asked for or did you expect the roots to match your mids?

Vrunkydunk · 07/08/2024 18:54

Sorry but I do think it doesn't look great. It looks like an obvious line where the growth from before was and your roots don't match the rest - there's a lot more dark bits at the root.

It doesn't look noticeably bad - nobody would stop and look at you on the street. It just looks a bit like you're still at the point of needing your roots doing.

Basically I don't think they've ruined your hair or anything and it's definitely nothing embarrassing, but I'd be a bit annoyed at having paid a lot for that.

leaveitt · 07/08/2024 19:19

I expected the roots to match my ends
I asked for a t section highlights and to cover the dark band
It's the second time now she hasn't done a good job
Seriously thinking of changing hairdressers

In my experience from getting highlights, you needed two lots of highlights - one in the light colour (blonde or whatever) and one in your natural dark colour. (They used to be called lowlights I think but my hairdresser doesn't use that term, maybe I'm old fashioned)

That's the only way to blend in a growth line when you've gone from a full (or nearly full head colour) to highlights only.

I get one foil in blonde, one foil in brown, and in between left with no foils and nothing done so it's all my own colour in them. It works quite well. But the brown will fade over the weeks.

If you don't do that you need to do more chunky highlights to minimise the block of brown regrowth looking like a horizontal line.

StormingNorman · 07/08/2024 19:35

You need a lot more highlights to cover the dark band.

I probably wouldn’t bother going back on the basis that (1) it’s the second time they’ve done a bad job and (2) their judgement is off if they think a few sparse highlights would give you the outcome you were looking for.

Time for a new hairdresser.

leaveitt · 07/08/2024 19:37

When it's not greasy and part on the side it's not that bad but I have to wait another 7 weeks now as I can't afford to keep paying £130 for it to be done
The last couple of times she's done a half arsed attempt

This is if I wear a side part

Some more highlights would be better and blend the line so it would not be unreasonable to go back. But I wouldn’t aim for the roots to match the ends- that would look too blocky and unnatural. It’s the nature of highlights that the ends are a bit lighter (because over time you end up with a higher proportion of the hair having been bleached) and this mirrors how your hair would look lightening naturally in the sun. The way they have been done is good, just ask for a few more.

GreenClock · 07/08/2024 23:29

I think that the second pic looks much nicer than the first.

PrueHal · 07/08/2024 23:32

I would want this rectified personally. Doesn't look professional.

Ginkypig · 08/08/2024 00:54

I’m not a hairdresser and I don’t dye my hair so maybe my opinion won’t be as useful as others but while I don’t think it looks bad and if I saw you on the street I wouldn’t think oh her hair looks terrible from both of this pictures you can see that there is a band at the top of the growth that is slightly different to the rest of your hair which I assume you have paid a lot of money to have it dyed to match.

i personally would be looking for someone else.

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 08/08/2024 01:01

£130 for that isn't good OP, I would go back and say you're not happy. She should definitely add more in.

Greigeisthelatestbeige · 08/08/2024 01:36

I don't think it looks newly done either tbh. You need more highlights to make it blend together.

Personally I would go back to the hairdresser and ask for more highlights as you've already paid for them and then start looking for a new hairdresser.

leaveitt · 08/08/2024 08:16

Yeah I'm not happy at all
It's been a week now since I've had it done so think it's too late to complain
I won't be going back to her again tho now
