Recommendations please for a good shampoo and conditioner to stop my grey hair going yellow. I've tried Elvive, John Frieda and Loreal professional and found them to be very drying. Thanks!

You need purple shampoo. Try the Aussie one

But only use it twice a week or so

Fanola, no yellow.

Once or twice a week then a shampoo that your hair agrees with the rest of the time.

Use a toner for silver hair every month or so. Wash hair, no conditioner, apply toner, leave half an hour then rinse and apply a good hair mask or conditioner.

WellyBellyBoo · 03/08/2024 09:49

@Neveranynamesleft which one do you use? I'm interested in using a toner on my salt and pepper hair.

I like the Lee Stafford Ice White treatment mask. Seems to reduce yellow without turning my hair blue or lilac.

You definitely need a purple shampoo. I like the Fudge one, I buy a big bottle from amazon. Be wary though, it will stain your shower ceiling.

@WellyBellyBoo
Jerome Russell Bblonde Silver maximum colour toner. It's around £3.50 in Savers or Home Bargains.

They are all quite harsh, so I wouldn't use them every time you wash your hair. The Aussie one seems more gentle and leaves my hair in better condition than some of the others mentioned, and the Lee Stafford one works best colourwise, in my experience.

hollyandsue · 03/08/2024 21:49

Thanks everyone. I hadn't thought about a toner. Have looked online and most say that they're for blonde hair. Does that matter?

Found this in France. It works really well. www.sanareva.co.uk/dessange-age-sublime-white-chic-shampoo-250ml.html

Daddy O by Lush. I use it 1 or 2 times a month.
