Do you have a go to shop when you hate shopping?

I am 52. I simply loathe shopping but I quite like to look good in my clothes.

I'd just like to have one shop online for classic, clean cut clothes. I'm tall at 6ft so it's also quite hard to find stuff that fits me properly.

Vinted?

It works for me. If Im not sure if a brand will fit me I'll either search to see if anyone can tell me the fit or I'll buy a super cheap item off Vinted to check the sizing.

What's your budget? I can't help with specific shop suggestions, because I'm not tall, but I have always found that you get more consistent sizing at the more-expensive end of the high street, i.e. brands like Reiss, Whistles, Jigsaw etc. that tend to stick with the same suppliers and do updated versions of the same thing every season. So you'd have to actually go to some shops initially and try stuff on, but once you've worked out what brand and size works for you, you should be able to shop online (including second-hand). I once had a tall friend who said she could pretty much buy anything from LK Bennett and know it would fit (and nothing from there ever fitted me) so that might be worth a try?

Yes. Friend and I meet twice a year in London as its a halfway point for us.

We have a fortifying coffee and go straight to COS while we have the energy to try it all on.

I've never left empty handed.

We then go straight for alcohol.

That sounds such a fabulous arrangement, @Droolylabradors! I rarely have anyone to go shopping with, these days.

I don’t hate shopping (online), and can always find things I want to buy - but I’m still coming to terms with the loss of Raey @ Matches; it was so often my starting point for browsing.

Thank you! @We have it down to a fine art now. We have recently branched our from the Regent St COS to the King's X branch 😁

Tbh, I don't see why the same arrangement wouldn't work if you did it on your own. Liberty for a glass of champagne is lovely if you sit at the bar!

@BlastedPimples I’m also 6ft and just a few years younger and find that I have to buy pretty much everything online, on Next Tall. I tend to get a delivery each season and take most back to the shop. No point in going to actual shops when absolutely nothing fits. Have you joined Facebook sites such as what’s the Tallternative (sp) as they’re often helpful.

AuntieMarys · 02/08/2024 13:55

It's a nightmare...I'm 6 feet tall too but mid 60s.
I am currently enjoying wide trousers from M and S which can be hit or miss on length.
Next tall....I returned some superwide autumn trousers yesterday as they were ridiculously wide.....looks like its an autumn trend 🙄
I'd love a go to shop on the high street. Don't get me started on shoes.....

RainintheDesert · 02/08/2024 14:14

I hate shopping. I'm a dumpy plus size and object to everything on offer. I hate trying things on in changing rooms too.

I order every 2-3 weeks from Next as they add new items. Take 90% back. The sizes vary so much!

Passthecake30 · 02/08/2024 16:08

@AuntieMarys at least they have the return bins in store now so it’s a bit less embarrassing than loading up the counter staff with returns!
luckily my feet are “normal” size, but there aren’t actually any shoe shops around.

I rarely bother walking around shops now. All that faffing around checking labels for size (usually on wrong hanger!), have to check fabric as loathe viscose/lyocell/tencel etc etc. These labels are situated near the security tag so guess what the shop assistants are thinking about me?!!! I am also a size 20, average height (5ft 4 ins) so the rare times I have gone into Marks for trousers I have found only 20 short or tall not regular. Much easier to search online (as long as they are not coy about the fabric used!)

I was one of those people never going to use the internet but there we are.
