The trend for long trousers and petites

I'm in the market for new jeans and trousers. I've now ordered petite jeans from Reiss, River Island, and trousers from Karen Millen. I've tried them on and they are all long, I've looked at the pictures of the non petite versions and they are really long on average height people too. Now if I were tall, I wouldn't worry too much - but I'm thinking if you're petite aren't I just going to look like I'm wearing jeans/trousers too big for me?

Im fed up of trying to find petite length trousers. Marks and Spencers seem to be one of the few that does them but I’m not feeling very inspired by their designs and material.

Yes, I don't think M&S is for me either.

I've been wearing skinnies for years and mostly from RI, and the length was spot on, so with the wider leg I'm assuming the length is correct for current fashion...

So should I be wearing them long (so they drag on the floor?)

I'm 5ft with an inside leg of around 27. I just hem my trousers. I even found skinny type legs too long most of the time, including leggings.

So you're ignoring the fashion of longer length jeans? I've never needed to hem them before and I don't think I've shrunk.

I'm 5'2. I don't wear them so they drag on the floor, but I've managed to find wide legged trousers that sit at the right length in Abercrombie among other places. M&S is hit and miss. What shoes are you wearing? I tend to wear trainers and the trousers sit just over the laces

I bought some wide leg trousers and had them shortened. They are supposed to be very long, just showing a glimpse of the shoe. Or even longer, puddling like curtains. I think they are more complicated than skinnies.

It feels unfair but if off the peg clothes don't fit and it bothers you, you need to get them altered or do it yourself. I have to shorten virtually every pair of trousers I buy and I'm only 5 ft 3. It's typically £10-15 to do it at alteration shops/dry cleaners.
I would hem wide leg trousers so they are a couple of cm off the floor in the shoes that I'd wear them with. If you have them to just touch the ground in your bare feet, then it works with flats.

This is a really good example of what I mean https://www.pixiegirl.com/pixiegirl-blue-stripe-wide-leg-trousers-p

Do you think wearing trousers that are dragging on the floor looks ok worn by a petite?

Yes it looks no worse than on other heights, but trousers like that might look fine on the model but are completely impractical in real life. You'd be better looking to people you see around you, or even Instagrammers, to see what to actually wear.

Well there is that haha!

One pair is a very light white, they actually look beautiful long, but would get absolutely filthy. It seems crazy companies are making them this long (petite as well as regular line) as they aren't practical, and surely a high % of people will just send them back :/

I have some River Island wide legged jeans - actually their relaxed straight fit. I've got the short length, and they're quite long, but look great with a platform trainer. However, I'm not sure I'd risk them in the rain! I'd wear Mom jeans instead. Incidentally, I love the cut of the River Island Mom jeans - I find them more flattering than the M&S version.
