Floaty dress for first date for curvy size 10-12

I really want a lovely floaty dress (ideally midi length as I always look a bit drowned in maxi dresses) but can't see any that would work with a large bust (34F) which also means I want straps that hide a bra, so not shoestring or strapless. Something bright, not black or navy. I want to look sexy but I am 49 so nothing resulting in bits of flesh hanging out! Suggestions please!

I'm 51 and a 34f and also don't feel I suit maxi dresses. I always tend to go for knee length as I have longish legs but a smaller top half. For midi and cheap and cheerful I find george asda does the trick. I'm not one for £100 dresses. Dress it up or down easily. Depends where you're going? I could quite easily go on a night out with a denim jacket on top with some short boots? But also day drinking wirh trainer type shoes and a short cardy or jacket?

I want something a bit fancy as it's kind of a posh event. So I'm prepared to push my budget (which is usually Vinted prices!) to up to £100.

Search for wrap dresses? Some of those tend to be A line and suit a large bust.

Yup That makes a difference. I'm just a cheapskate lol. I don't stray far from boohoo and new look etc. I personally dont go for wrap dresses as i feel they make the baps look even larger. What about something like this? https://www.next.co.uk/style/su171386/q92439#q92439

I absolutely bloody love that but my size is out of stock. Boo!

I agree that wrap dresses don't work so well with larger busts btw. On me, they look like those dresses you can discreetly unwrap the top half of for breastfeeding.

Interesting. I'm a 34FF and I only wear wrap dresses if I can. Anything else is too tight across the bust.

I try to avoid rigid fabrics too. If it fits on the waist it's too small on the bust and vice versa.

Haven't got any suggestions though, OP. I struggle too!

Might be worth giving the nearest next to you a call or message to see if in-stock in store? I’ve done this previously and they have saved it for me.

I bought this last week and it's fab, available in lots of colours.

My boobs are the same size but I'm a 12-14 and it's super flattering but floaty. Sexy but not slutty.

Also fine with a bra. Recommend.

What size did you get in the end? I'm prob a 12-14 top and 14-16 bottom...

In that case I'd go 14.

It's fitted on top and floaty on bottom.

Im a 12-14 all over and got a 14. It's perfect for the big boobs and although Id have fitted in a 12 on the bottom it hangs nicely and looks fine.

Oh that's gorgeous. Desperate trying to justify buying it for myself now 🙈

HappierTimesAhead · 31/07/2024 09:11

Nobody's Child are killing it this season, there is so much I want!

VeryStressedMum · 31/07/2024 09:35

I'm 34G and also a figure 8/hourglass type of shape I can only wear one style of dress which has to be fitted at the waist or I look like I'm wearing my duvet
I like the Joe Browns jersey mock wrap midi dresses they are a lovely fit on me I have loads I get them from vinted.

Secondtonaan · 31/07/2024 09:35

Yep - I've got a few lovely dresses from Nobodys child. There's 15% off at the mo too so I think that's your justification!

'Heads immediately to the Nobody's child website' 😂

StamppotAndGravy · 31/07/2024 10:15

I have and love this dress. You could take up the hem easily. It's well within budget and looks more expensive than it is

Thanks for the Nobody's Child recommendation - I just bought the leopard print midi dress. Not what I meant to buy at all, but saw someone wearing that exact same dress at a festival last weekend and it looked amazing!

I am the same size as you exactly and I buy pepperberry dresses from eBay. They were made by bravissimo and have “really curvy” or “super curvy” sizes abbreviated to 12 RC or 12 SC etc. I would say 12 RC should fit you (as it does me at the same size). They have casual or dressy stuff but unfortunately went bust a few years ago so only available on eBay etc, although some are still being sold new. It is the only brand that truly fits me! Everything else I have to pick pieces that have belts or other design elements to stop me looking like I’m wearing a sack!

itsjustbiology · 31/07/2024 18:36

scarlett and jo london dresses are great for being floaty yet with built in hidden help they make any figure look great especially ladies with great boobs! Well worth a look

Another Scarlett & Jo recommendation, I’m 32G and the Verity dresses are super flattering! Just avoid the frumpy patterns.

Maje have a lot of dresses in a flowing style like this one, if you're willing to go slightly above your budget (there are a few c. £200 on sale)

Try Monsoon sale. They have some gorgeous stuff very reduced at the moment
