Wedding travel heat haven't lost any weight

spanieleyes22 · 29/07/2024 15:30

So am going to a wedding in Bordeaux in 2 weeks and of course I had intended to lose at least a stone so I wouldn't feel so heavy . Have been eating and eating the past couple of weeks due to stresses - it's my comfort I know I'm a disaster. Anyway it says it's 38 today where the wedding is and I'm so worried how will I cope. We have to get buses and trams with suitcases. Can't afford to take Ubers or taxis. Are dresses or trousers cooler do y think. Anyone have any tips for a 50isb fat blonde woman who suffers in the heat. It's 28 today here at home and I'm sitting in front of a fan trying to work

Any recommendations for setting spray or a way to try and keep the make up on my face even for the wedding and photos . I will have a giant round red sweaty face with piglet eyesBlush

I find dresses cooler and - tmi alert - tend to wear them with a pair of period pants for the excess sweat. Has to be natural fibres. And get a couple of cotton bras if you can, there's something about a nylon underwired bra that just makes me spontaneously combust. Sandals. Hat (straw, not a cap).

And, even if it's a pain, make sure you walk down the shady side of the street and don't rush.

spanieleyes22 · 29/07/2024 17:27

Thanks @HelloMyNameIsElderSmurf ! I noticed one of my dresses has a polyester lining . Why!!!! It's a cotton dress broderie anglaise. Am thinking will I cut the lining out of the skirt and either buy a slip or I'll be wearing shorts for chub rub so that might be enough

That's a good tip about the period pants thanks!!!!

A wide brimmed hat and no black / dark colours

OldTinHat · 29/07/2024 17:48

Definitely a dress for being cooler. The waftier and floatier, the better. Don't bother with chub rub shorts, just apply roll on deodorant on the inside of your thighs. Trust me!

I use Boots No.7 make up setting spray after piling on make up. A primer is also worth it's weight in gold. I like Benefit Porefessional. (Other products are available 😆)

Advice from a size 20, almost 53yr old!

But the most important thing?? Enjoy yourself!!

OldTinHat · 29/07/2024 17:51

Oh, and yes! The sweaty groin! I wear incontinence pads/pants on hot days so that I won't leave a sweaty bum shape on the plastic chair or on my outfit.

The things we have to think about...!

isitfridaay · 29/07/2024 20:29

Get one of those rechargeable fans .

Posted too soon!

Is the travel and faff with the cases or the wedding?

Get some sure max protection deodorant.

Wide linen culottes and a cotton vest

spanieleyes22 · 29/07/2024 20:36

Travel and faff with suitcases and wedding lol. Am trying to do everything on the cheap so we will be getting buses and trams wit our cases. Am hoping the air con in the rooms wil be working. It's a very rustic place so am worried!

Walk slowly, seek shade, manage stress, drink water not alcohol. You have to think calm, cool thoughts Grin

The French use hand fans so it's normal there.

If the a/c doesn't work, and there are fans, take a sarong. Damp it slightly and drape it over you with a fan on. You'll be cold in minutes.

mylittleitalianhome · 29/07/2024 20:42

Try not to stress about the heat and just take it as it comes! Yes to cotton/linen flowy clothes for travel, a hand fan and plenty of water. I’m sure the AC will be fine, and hopefully the venue will be air conditioned too (you won’t be the only one worried about the heat). As an Italian wedding veteran, all I can say is the best thing to do is not fret about the forecast and just lean in to it…you’ll survive and have a fab time!

Yes! We have one from Amazon that has a setting for very cold air. It's tiny but really effective

Citrusandginger · 29/07/2024 20:51

Top make up tip. Start applying light cover fake tan daily from now - I use a dove one.
Then all you will need is lipstick/gloss and proper waterproof mascara. I use tubing and it doesn't smudge in the heat.

Looks so much better than sweaty, shiny foundation.

Drink plenty of water and have fun!

isitfridaay · 29/07/2024 20:55

Keeping your face cool with the fan will help make up stay on.

Take a insulated water bottle for cold
Water on hand.

Hair up

Carry a muslin/ face cloth/tissues to dab the perspiration-Personally found in Caribbean the regular face cloth were the best for this.

Scoop necks and back are good.

Seconding, thirding and generally endorsing a fan. Absolute saviours

Ifonlyiweretaller · 29/07/2024 21:35

If wearing dresses I use 'Bodyglide' or similar Vaseline type product on my inner thighs to prevent the dreaded thigh rub/burn in the heat. Works a treat !

I put tan drops in my moisturizer today. Not sure I can see a difference yet tho. Will have a look in the morning thanks @Citrusandginger

Just to add to the already useful tips, you could use a cooling scarf (one that you soak in cold water first), especially when you're travelling/walking. They are a lifesaver for me. I get so hot on the back of my neck and then I get a sweaty face, but when I use these, I feel so much more comfortable.

I have one and noticed on the tube and trains last week lots of people have them, they were really powerful.

I just bought this mini fan and it's amazing!

DelphiniumBlue · 06/08/2024 19:23

Dresses are way cooler for me. I make bra liners from strips of microfibre towel cloths to soak up underboob sweat ( yuk) and always carry a change of underwear, bra and pants. No underwired bras, and actually the very minimum of bra you can get away with, so a lightweight pull on crop top type thing.
I avoid necklaces and bracelets when it's too hot, as they can irritate my skin.
Keep your wrists cool by holding the under a cold tap whenever you get the opportunity, that seems to cool down your whole body.
