Any suggestions - I've three lovely dresses but they gape so much at the neck my bra shows

I don't really want to wear a vest / slip under and I am looking for ideas to either tape the dress together / tape it to me / sew it up?? Thanks

I have this problem and recently discovered Stitchy which works brilliantly for me

Sorry to jump on but I have a dress where you have to attach the straps to the bra otherwise my straps and the sides of the bra show. I’ve got a low cut bra as it’s a low dress so strapless bras don’t work. Last time I wore it I managed with pins but they were stabbing me so I need a sort of safety pin that doesn’t show. Does anyone know what I can use please?

Just ordered some of those hijab magnets, sound perfect!
(I find alot of summer dresses are too lowcut and show off my bra.)

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 29/07/2024 12:08

Would hijab magnets help for my problem?

Sounds like you either need some sort of tape or a strapless bra TBH!.

emily012 · 29/07/2024 14:01

You could try using fashion tape to keep the dress in place, or you could add a few discreet stitches at the neckline to reduce the gap. Both are easy fixes and should help with the issue!

Could you try and attach some small bits of fabric on the underneath of the dress where bra straps would sit and thread the straps through these loops? It would have to be a strapless bra with the option to attach straps otherwise you can't thread through the loops.

Branster · 30/07/2024 08:34

I mean the loops would be sewn in under the shoulders of the dress.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 30/07/2024 13:21

Ah thank you for the suggestion but it’s low cut as well so a strapless bra isn’t an option.

Sgtmajormummy · 30/07/2024 13:33

I recently bought a button-up dress and sewed it together inside the button placket (the stiffened strip) from above to below boob level. About 20cm and invisible from the outside. I can still get it on over my head.
That way I’m sure it won’t pucker or gape. I used to do that with school blouses, too.
I use safety pins otherwise but the hijab magnets sound like a good idea.

I have this, it's brilliant!

Tricky. How about double sided sticky tape, boob tape I think it's called, on the inside along the edges of the neckline so that edge sticks to your skin? It might work. Maybe you only need to put it in s couple of places not all the way.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 30/07/2024 16:08

Ah I might try that. Thanks. I had to buy a half cup bra which works for the boob bit but then you can see the straps although my DH said who cares 🤣

Branster · 30/07/2024 17:55

😂😂😂 your DH doesn't understand dresses!

Some dresses look fabulous when you stand up without moving looking in the mirror, but as soon as you move there is this annoying gap.
I have a small bust and go without a bra with a few dresses because the line seems to look more natural on me. To me it's equally bad that my bra or my breasts might be on partial show. Obviously bra is safer but I still don't like it. I absolutely love the perennial Nobody'sChild dress with the v shape neck that comes in every colour but as soon as I move, stretch, slightly bend down there's a gap. I have been known to pin my bra to a dress, not the easiest exercise.

invisibleoldwoman · 30/07/2024 20:58

@BlossomToLeaves Thanks for this suggestion. I’ve been looking for something like this. Got a set and they work perfectly. So far I’m using them to put a small pleat in gaping necklines. But I think I’ll be using them for scarves as well.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 31/07/2024 10:36

@Branster he meant it in a nice way like so what you have a bra on. I’m thinking a small safety pin linked through the dress and the circular bit of my bra strap is all I can do then really. I mean with a couple of dresses and vest tops it’s inevitable you’ll get some bra strap showing but this was side as well.

Evenstar · 31/07/2024 10:45

@teaandtoastwithmarmite I bought some of these for a dress with a square neckline
