To have hair cut or not?!

My hair is currently what I’d say mid-length, past my shoulders. It’s thickish, all one length, although sides are just slightly shorter. I don’t have a fringe.

I have a very very round face. I wear glasses. I have a double chin. I seem to want to grow my hair long long but it never quite gets there, I colour it different colours, it becomes dry & I get it trimmed & it just never gets to the long length I thought I desired. I’m pretty sure I’m peri-menopausal so I guess the grow-rate is & has been very slow for my hair for a long time.

I’ve been toying with the idea of getting it cut to bob length or up to shoulders, so it rests on my shoulders. I’ve seen lots of really nice pics that I like but that’s just it, they’re great pics on really pretty women, I’m not pretty! I did have my hair shorter years &years ago which I did like but I was younger then (and slimmer!) I Just don’t know if I’d regret it if I have it done now.

When I do a search for hairstyles for round faces, the results are ridiculous- not one of the pics have a round face at all, not like mine!

Have anyone recently had their hair cut shorter & how do you feel about it now?

Ive given up TBH. Im peri-meno with hair that doesnt look its best anymore (also glasses wearer).
Mine is just a simple midneck bob with fringe. I feel like over a certain age its just bobs or pixie cuts....and not cool looking pixies either.
Then I have to ask myself is it the samey haircuts making everybody look old or is it just that we are all old!!?LOL😆

How much time can you spend on styling?

Funkyslippers · 27/07/2024 16:47

I have hair that never seems to grow very long! I don't think there's much difference between your length now & shoulder length. It will soon grow if you regret it. Just be aware that the ends tend to flick out if it sits on your shoulders. If you like it you could then go for a chin length bob next time

I don’t have a round face but I do know I regret it every time I go to shoulder length or shorter. I find it lower maintenance to have it a bit longer. I also find layers essential.

I had mine cut into just above shoulder length with layers and a fringe. Much more flattering for my fat face than one length.

I regretted cutting off my long thick hair. Currently growing it out. In your position I'd have a good shaping cut while keeping the length. And maybe change your routine with it, say less colour, more deep conditioning treatments. The Garnier glowing lengths one smells really nice.

@Tracker1234 - styling, I usually just blow dry & run straighteners through quick-ish, that’s about it. I can wave it with straighteners, but it’s a faff so I don’t tend to do it too often. I wouldn’t want layers though as I think it would end up to ‘Rachel’ style? And I don’t want that.

@Funkyslippers thats a thought, about it flicking out on shoulders. So I wouldn’t want it resting on my shoulders it would be just touching my shoulders then. That’s quite a bit off.

@henlake7 I know what you mean, I’ve wanted long long hair or at least I thought I did - I actually had about 2 inches off my last ‘trim’ it was really really dry & split - it needed it. But the reality is, I am getting older, even though my mind is trying to fight it!

I guess what I am asking is does longer hair or shorter hair age you? There’s no straight answer I know as really depends on the person. I like the ‘younger’ style bobs/lobs that are ‘in’ but I’m unsure they won’t suit my ‘mature’ 🤣 face! Half of me wants to just cut my hair myself right now (I have done that before) but the sensible side of me is holding me back & saying just think about this!

I had short hair for ages. I have good hair, not coloured and in good condition. It’s prone to be flat as a pancake. I do use good hair products including styling ones and I think that makes a big difference.

The game changer for me was when it was long enough to tie back into a pony tail. Was great on holiday when I washed it every day and dried it quickly with a dryer. Used straightener’s on the fringe and it made such a difference especially in hot and humid weather when spending 30 mins styling it was a complete waste of time.

I mean, my hair sits on my shoulders and flicks out but I'm used to it. If your hair is thick it might not even do that

seeyouyesterday · 27/07/2024 18:14

Yeah, I’d still want to be able to tie it back, even in a little ponytail. I’m not going to do anything rash I’ll wait til about a week or 2 & if I still want to go shorter, I suppose I could just get an inch off & see how I feel about that.
