What product - toner that deeply exfoliates?

I'm not sure what I need - I want something to use like cliniques clarifying lotion (so wipe on with cotton wool, no wash)

My skin is dull and bumpy (best way to describe it, some spots but not raised or red) . Mid forties, oily skin.

Thanks so much.

Why not the Clinique clarifying lotion?

DisneyHag · 27/07/2024 12:29

Try an enzyme cleanser. (The Dr Barbara Sturm is amazing though the brand is excoriated on S&B). Comes as powder, you add water. Lasts months and months so excellent value.

Followed by Paula’s Choice BHA Liquid Exfoliant. Apply with your hands, not cotton wool.

You have to maintain use to see the best results.

Dennis gross exfoliating pads

I like REN tonic. I have oily skin as well.
I don't apply with cotton wool as it wastes product, I pour into my hands and apply directly!

Paula's choice is also good but I found it left residue for me.

The Cerave smoothing cleanser is also excellent especially for the price (not toner but does the same job)

My horrible bumpy skin is slowly improving with Paula’s Choice BHA. I use it at night though as it feels a bit weird on my face!

honkifyalikebeans · 27/07/2024 14:10

Thanks everyone, I'm after essentially a paint stripper for faces. I use clarifying lotion and it takes make up off but I want it to take off all the dead skin too - is that a certain type of product I'm looking for?

You need a good glycolic acid. I love Pixi Glow Tonic.

DisneyHag · 27/07/2024 14:32

But those are the products everyone is recommending, @honkifyalikebeans.

It’s a continuous process, not once and done.

Alpha H liquid gold is insane.
You use it at night time rather than as a day time toner.

Use it by itself at night if you want a stronger treatment or else you can layer it with other skincare, but I never layer it and wake up with gorgeous glowy exfoliated skin.

You can get little 30ml bottles on asos and it will last ages because you don't use it every night.

Dermalogica Glycolic Cleanser and follow up with the Daily Microfoliant once a day.

Second the Dennis Gross AHA wipes too.

I tried that stuff and man alive - my face rebelled!

Bright red, tender to the touch, and peeling like crazy.
It was during the first lockdown, so i was able to wear a mask to cover it up.

It took ages to get my face back to normal.

TheOneWithUnagi · 27/07/2024 15:33

You should be removing makeup before cleansing. I use Clinique take the day off, wash that off, then use a cleanser and a toner - it's the toner you are looking for and what everyone is recommending here.

TommyandGina · 27/07/2024 16:36

I'd recommend the Elemis papaya enzyme peel. Use after double cleansing, once to remove makeup and a second time to cleanse skin. Use toner in between cleanses to close pores.

Why not the Clinique clarifying lotion?

Because it's like petrol...

The best I've found is Aveda:
