Pureology haircare - what the hell am I doing wrong?!

Right so I spend a lot of money on my hair getting it done every 12-14 weeks. I’ve tried to use Pureology products before (the purple stuff), years ago, and just couldn’t get on with it. But I know that the cheap stuff is ruining my colour, so, I’ve bought some new Pureology shampoo and conditioner for coloured and fine hair.

I washed my hair this morning. Hadn’t washed it since Tuesday (I have Covid right now so feeling crappy!). I have fine hair so it was very greasy. I only used the shampoo - I forgot to get conditioner out of the draw 🙈 (I blame Covid fuzzy brain).

Anyway, I squeezed a small amount into my hands. Emulsified it really well by rubbing it between my hands. Applied it and honestly… I got nothing. So used some more, repeated the same steps, got a bit more foam but really felt like my hair wasn’t being cleaned. So I repeated that two more times. It still didn’t feel that clean when I got out of the shower, and I thought the whole point of this shampoo was that you only need to use a very small amount?

My hair / scalp also felt just like one big knot!! When I got out of the shower I brushed it through using my tangle teezer and it felt SO heavy, like it was still greasy but now greasy and wet. I started to dry it and it does actually feel / look clean now, but it was so knotty to brush through before and during drying.

I would be extremely grateful if anyone has any advice on how to use decent shampoo on your hair!! Or recommend me any products / good hair care social media accounts to follow etc!

Well Im no expert cos I certainly have never heard of rubbing shampoo into your hand before applying. I just squeeze a blob of shampoo into my palm and slap it on to my wet hair and work it through the scalp where it lathers as it goes

Seriously you emulsify first? Surely then the soap have been used to just clean your hands and you are expecting lather to wash your hair?

I don’t think the shampoos do foam as they don’t have the harsh chemicals in. Maybe it was because you haven’t conditioned it? When I changed shampoos I thought this as my hair felt rough and tangled when wet. However when dried and styled it was a lot better. Felt better than any other shampoo etc due to no chemicals.

It probably doesn't have foaming agents in it, the good stuff tends not to.

Yes often the really good shampoos have much lower levels of foaming agents.

I tend to try them for a bit then get a craving for the satisfying lather of some cheap Pantene 🤣

i use this shampoo and love it. Did you wet your hair first? You don't get a lot of foam from it. After rinsing the shampoo off, towel dry it well before applying a small amount of conditioner. The results should be very good.

I love pureology. They don’t foam because they don’t contain SLS’s which strip your hair.

The products can make your hair feel dry which is why you really should use the conditioner.
