For the love of god recommend me a bra

little0miss0mac · 26/07/2024 21:11

I am done with M&S and all the rest. I have a wide frame and a perimenopausal tum and not a single one of my bras are comfortable and the last time I went to JL and M&S on a desperate mission I couldn't find a single one that worked. I'm probably a 40C.

I keep seeing Facebook ads for lovely comfy looking bras but obviously one can't they them before buying and I don't want to end up with some Chinese scam/returns issues or something that rolls up my tum or makes my boobs look hangy because there's no underwire.

I'd go to Bravissimo but I think they're for bigger cup sizes.

Please share your dream comfortable bra wins. At this point I genuinely don't care what it looks like on as long as it doesn't make me want to scream by 10am

Can I ask what dress size you are?

little0miss0mac · 26/07/2024 21:28

Big for me - 16. Hoping to get back down to a 14 at some point but I need to bra for now 😬

What's your measurements?

Nomorecoconutboosts · 26/07/2024 21:31

I would recommend you try bravissimo anyway…if you’re a dress size 14/16 you’re likely a 36/38 round the bust area. So potentially in bravissimo sizes a 38d or 36dd which is roughly a 40c equivalent
they are very nice staff they’ll glance at you (clothed) and bring you a load to try

I would bet a significant amount of money you're not a 40 band at a size 16. At a size 20 I was a 36.

Have you done boob or bust? I know not everyone likes it but it's a great starting point

protectoroftherealm · 26/07/2024 21:33

Figleaves or Figleaves curve are my favourites at the minute!

MrsMoastyToasty · 26/07/2024 21:37

I suggest you try one of the sister sizes to a 40c. So go down to either a 38D or a 36DD or E.

savvy7 · 26/07/2024 21:47

I recommend Fantasie brand but main thing.is.to get measured properly at John Lewis or similar

timetorefresh · 26/07/2024 22:00

I love fantasie bras. But I do get measured at bravissimo. You're prob not the size you think you are. I bet you're smaller back and bigger cup

Bigpinkslippers · 26/07/2024 22:02

I now only wear snag bras. Not the best looking but god they're comfy.
Not the best for strappy tops so still need a plan b for some outfits.
I'm size 16/18 36g

wishingchair1 · 26/07/2024 22:04

Maybe do your measurements. Curvy Kate is good and amazon do a 7 day try before you buy, so you could order a few

MidLifeWoman · 26/07/2024 22:06

Currently wearing No. 1 bras, which were a huge step up from the ill fitting M&S ones I was wearing before. Not perfect. I am eyeing up Molke and Miss Mary of Sweden ones at the moment.

Globules · 26/07/2024 22:11

I can empathise. I was there 3 months ago. I had a bra fitting at bravissimo and it was useless. The only thing I found useful was her suggesting I tried a bigger cup size.

Know where I found my comfort spot in the end? Asda. Sizing is perfect. Dress size 12. Bra size 38D.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 26/07/2024 22:13

I bet you a 100 pounds that you are not a 40c!
Go to bravissimo and get fitted. You'll be much smaller round the band and bigger in the cup than you think.

Are you broad? I’m a size 22 and a 38 band size.

I’ve never known a size 12 to be a 38!

little0miss0mac · 26/07/2024 22:34

Thanks so much everyone. I do keep eyeing up Miss Mary but I think I need to bite the bullet and get a proper measurement before I start buying online. Bravissmo beckons.

If you are a 16 I don't see how you can be a 40 in your band size. Bravissimo do C cup bras, but I echo the others , get properly measured- not by M&S.

PopcornAndGummyBears · 26/07/2024 22:40

@little0miss0mac measure yourself using boob or bust and then take it from there. You can then order a range of sizes either side of your measurements from Bravissimo online or other websites, and try on in the comfort of your own home.

I’d also wager that you are not a 40 back size at a size 14-16! (At my biggest I was pushing into a 14 and was still only a 30 back size)

Chantelle Soft Stretch

No hooks, wires or fastenings and (vitally for me) there are matching bottoms in various styles - briefs, shorts etc.
Come in a big variety of colours and the most comfortable I’ve ever worn (36D)
Not cheap but wash like a ribbon and last for ages.

Onelifeonly · 26/07/2024 22:42

It took me decades to realise I actually needed a smaller back size and larger cup size. I'm small in the boob and nothing ever seemed to fit properly or do anything for me.

There's a way to measure yourself that I read on here but can't remember now, sadly. It wasn't what I'd been told.

Definitely get a proper measurement!

It can happen! I’m a 12 top, (occasionally even a 10) and take a 36 D.

At 30 you’ve an incredibly narrow frame, there are wide framed women about.

BettySweaty · 26/07/2024 22:44

Get a proper fitting. Makes all the difference. I've always found m&s to be rubbish. Used a local independent underwear shop for years. They are great. Usually end up buying Elomi bras. Fantastic. Need decent bra as have G cup.

I promise I'm really broad. Always have been. But happy to be proved wrong 😆. I will report back

Fantasie every time.

i fell in love with their bras 15 years ago and never buy anything else.

Order online for free shipping and returns. They also have a virtual bra fitting service.

www.fantasie.com/uk/en/

I received two new Ana bras this morning, one an ordinary bra with great side support and one a T shirt bra. Ordered Wednesday arrived today

understatedeleganza · 26/07/2024 23:00

The A Bra That Fits website or Instagram is really helpful in self measuring too. I found it useful to use a couple of self measurement sites.

M&S bras are awful. Their fitting is awful. No wonder you can't find anything there.

I had to try on about 30 bras in a dept store to find a single one that fit properly. I now just buy that same bra in multiple colours and replace every 2/3 years
