Wavy hair - curly underneath and frizzy on the top?

Anyone else have this?
I prefer to not blow dry it straight because the curls that come underneath are silky and beautiful.
But there's a whole top layer that is just straight-ish frizz.
It's better if I avoid brushing it, but too messy for work (nice for beach holiday!)
Any reason for this, does anyone know?
Any tips that have worked?
Thanks!

Mine is like this. I mostly wear it straight.

Layers - it may be the underneath bits are shorter and curl more easily

Wash very infrequently - try coconut - brush before washing , leave to dry naturally

Brush , Wet ( but not wash ) and dry natural in the morning to tidy it up

I would try putting up in a loose scrunchie at night and getting a satin pillowcase, I think it helped my hair to stop being like that.

And curly girl method for styling, using a cream and then a gel like the pink Umberto Giannini one - follow their instructions.

Mine was like this. Try using silicone free shampoo and conditioner (cantu is good) and let it dry naturally. . Whilst it is still really wet, run a little bit of conditioner through your hair as leave in conditioner.

Oh and never brush it unless it is wet

Thanks! Really useful.
I'll try all those and report back.
