What to wear under this dress...(Photos)

I love white clothing for summer. However it's obviously very impractical as every single thing I've purchased is see through!

I've bought the dress below for holiday. I assumed with it being pricey, it may be lined, but no. I really like it though, so what's the best way to stop it being so see through? A slip? Problem then is that it adds another layer and it'll be hot when we are away!
I'm assuming everyone just wears slops under white dresses?
And don't get me started on white shorts/skirts. Even nude knickers don't help.

What a beautiful dress. What about a waist length cotton underskirt.

WeNeedBees · 21/07/2024 19:00

That’s such a lovely dress. No idea what to wear under it but it’s so pretty.

MassiveOvaryaction · 21/07/2024 19:07

That dress is gorgeous Smile

I wear cool comfort slips from M&S under my hideous work uniform dresses, they do seem to help reduce the temperature. Not tried them in overseas heat but in plenty of older folks' homes where they like having the heating on even in summer! 🥵

something2say · 21/07/2024 19:15

I would wear a G string and cream or white bra. It won't be that see through surely? It's a lovely dress, enjoy it and who cares if a slight outline can be seen in certain lights, you're not the only one.

Doggymummar · 21/07/2024 19:17

It doesn't look see though I would go nude bra and knickers.

StarlightLady · 21/07/2024 19:28

Lovely dress. I don’t do beige or white underneath it all. Reminds me of school days too much. I just wear pale pink under something like this, or if you are olive skinned like me, red can surprisingly blend in.

lf thong or knickers show slightly it wouldn't bother me. It would be a different story if they “shouted” at you.

To be honest on a warm day with something this long l might wear nothing at all underneath. But last time l mentioned this on MN, l got called names!

wizzler · 21/07/2024 19:30

Agree with a Pp... try red. It sounds crazy but it's true. I wear a scarlet bra under my white work blouses and you can't see it

MagneticSquirrel · 21/07/2024 19:50

Slips really don't make you that hot - I'd wear a full slip if its see through.

peoplearepeople · 21/07/2024 19:50

Beautiful dress. 😍 I do think it's shameful that at nearly £300 it's not lined though. I wish companies wouldn't skimp like this.
I think I would be very tempted to take it to a local seamstress and ask them to line it for you.

TheBizzies · 21/07/2024 19:54

I wouldn't wear anything!

Gall10 · 21/07/2024 19:58

Gorgeous dress!

Amioutoftouch · 21/07/2024 20:30

Thank you all for the tips! I'd never thought of maybe just an underskirt. I will also definitely try a slip. I did consider not wearing knickers but would feel a bit odd 🤣
I'm not overly concerned about the top part of my bra showing a bit, just my knickers. I'd never have thought or red knickers but it's worth a try!

Also a g string is a good idea and not something I'd considered, I'll have to buy one!

In something of this length after you have been out a couple of times sans knix, it feels both free and normal. Obviously a summer sport though. Cold days and period days are obviously a non starter.

l’ve even been to work on a hot day without knickers on everything well below the knee, so secure! Don’t tell anyone though🤫.

If you go for a G or a thong, size up one size.

Cantonet · 22/07/2024 11:26

I would wear a cotton waist slips.
Alternatively a Hanro Ultralight cotton knee-length slip. They're available in nude, black, white. I've bought mine to wear under light summer dresses overseas in humid weather. They're really light & weightless.

LunaNorth · 22/07/2024 11:28

Lovely dress - where is it from?

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 22/07/2024 18:05

This the dress
Rixo dress

It even makes a feature of not being lined Unlined for a non-restrictive feel

OP was expecting it to be lined so I'm not sure why she would think wearing a slip is adding another layer- it's just adding what Rixo omitted.

In my experience dresses which are lined generally add warmth in a way a separate slip underneath an unlined dress doesn't.

Each to their own but no knickers under a thin cotton dress is yuk.

The perfect dress for summer, this white Carey style is made with a linen blend fabric for a beautiful drape and breathability. The feminine embroidery and lace trims are inspired by vintage handkerchiefs and tablecloths.

Obviously l wouldn’t wear it without knix if it was blatantly obvious. But I’m also mystified on MN, there are so many posts about VPL. All that a knicker line means is that you have knickers on. So if you want to give the impression you are not wearing knickers is to leave them off. Obviously not appropriate for period days, cold days or shorter skirts/dresses.

I don't think I've ever had a VPL problem probably a combination of enormous plain cotton knickers, slips under dresses and not having anything see through.

The idea of not wearing knickers under a dress is yuk. Do you really want vaginal secretions on a dress when you sit down?

Never had an issue with flowing dresses and skirts. Having an air conditioned undercarriage on a warm summer’s day can feel quite liberating.

Maddy70 · 23/07/2024 18:28

Skin coloured underwear . White shows.

Lurkingandlearning · 23/07/2024 18:56

I think a cotton slip is the way to go. Better still, silk. Lining would have been another layer and probably synthetic and much hotter.

RookieMa · 23/07/2024 19:00

It doesn't look see through but if you're wearing it on holiday esp a beach holiday then it doesn't really matter

boredybored · 23/07/2024 19:07

Red is supposed to work well under white

MushMonster · 23/07/2024 19:09

There is a threat about slips. Have a look to it. They do not really feel hot if that is what worries you.
It is a gorgeous dress and a great look on you.
