Hello, is there anything we can do to to help her hair, to be fair it does look quite bad.

Split ends will have to be cut, you can’t mend them.

MeadStMary · 19/07/2024 14:11

The only way to get rid of split ends is to get them trimmed off AFAIK.

To prevent them in future she needs to be careful with using heat to style her hair. Try to avoid it as much as possible and when using heat then turn it down as low as possible and don't let any heat touch that hair without liberally applying heat protection first.

GrumpySock · 19/07/2024 14:14

Cut off. And trim regularly. Use moisturizing masks/conditioners going forward. Use protection when styling.

Cut again if split ends appear. You cannot save them and there is no point really. They make the hair unhealthy

Start regularly using hair masks 1-2 a week

always use heat protection spray

Try not to use any heat on the hair like straighteners or curlers etc

Air drying hair is preferable however if she really needs to use a hair dryer let the hair dry until about 80% naturally and then use the hairdryer on the lowest heat setting and with heat protection spray

heatless over night curlers are a good option to use too

get a hair cut to take off as much of the split ends as possible and keep up with regular trims

It really depends.

Does she have anything done to it, like bleached. Does she dye it. Is it at home or by a professional.

What hair type does she have? What’s her routine now?

SunshinDay · 20/07/2024 14:08

No hair dye and the worst thing she'd does is dry it with hair dryer but recently she's keeping it cooler.

Cut off the split ends.

Doubter2 · 21/07/2024 16:35

My hair dresser told me hard water causes damage too, if you live in a hard water area. She said to use a clarifying shampoo once a week and use a filter on the shower.

Doubter2 · 21/07/2024 16:36

How are her nails? Vitamin deficiency can cause brittle nails and hair too

SunshinDay · 23/07/2024 08:30

@Doubter2 good point, I think nails are OK but I think her iron has been low.
Yes we are in a hard water area.
