Do I have a right to refund on botched hair?

I had my hair done on Monday from a mobile hairdresser, I wanted a blonde balayage. We discussed what I wanted ect. This is what I've ended up with and I've explained how upset I am as I've not done anything to my hair since a bad job 13 years ago and my hair previously was lovely I just fancied a change. She has offered to try and fix it but I do not trust her to touch my hair again and am looking to have it fixed in a salon. I've attached before and after pics and what I wanted.

That looks nice though. Why do you think it’s botched?

DrFoxtrot · 16/07/2024 20:04

I don't think it looks botched? Style it like the inspiration photo and it'll look like what you're expecting.

ApolloandDaphne · 16/07/2024 20:14

Your hair looks lovely. It's just not curled like your inspo pic.

gocompare · 16/07/2024 20:25

It's not botched it looks lovely. You just need to give the ends a blow to curl them

TakeOnFlea · 16/07/2024 20:27

Did you think the hair would style itself?

ZoChan · 16/07/2024 20:28

Hmm I disagree with PP: it's not even. The right section roots are to shoulder length compared to the left section, which is better.

Hopebridge · 16/07/2024 20:30

I think it looks lovely. Appreciate it's not want you wanted but it does look balayage.

AnotherCountryMummy · 16/07/2024 20:32

Respectfully, that's what balyage looks like until you curl it. I don't think it's bad at all.

Blanketison · 16/07/2024 20:33

I think it’s nice OP. I agree about the curls too!

hockityponktas · 16/07/2024 20:36

I think it looks nice, you could try a toner if you think it’s too bright and also styling it will make it look better. Balayage always looks a bit “meh” on unstyled hair.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 16/07/2024 20:39

I think it looks uneven (I appreciate balayage is hand painted and not completely uniform, but it’s very different on the two sides) and the colour is a bit yellow-y. If she’s offering to redo it that seems fair - if you choose not to have her do that then I don’t think you can ask for a refund. (FWIW I wouldn’t want her on my hair again after that and would just suck up visiting a salon, personally. Sorry, OP.)

circular2478 · 16/07/2024 21:14

I think it looks fine. Style it and see what it looks like. Balayage does not look great in uncurled/ unstyled hair

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 16/07/2024 21:19

How can anyone claim that looks good when there is a diagonal line from the top of the left ear to the right shoulder. No amount of styling will even that out. Get a refund.

Cherubs4 · 16/07/2024 21:28

I would ask for my money back but she probably won't give it. Go to a decent salon and get it fixed though, you'll feel much better.

MummySam2017 · 16/07/2024 21:37

It’s not terrible but it kinda looks like you’ve had balayage before and it needs redoing, instead of this being fresh balayage. It’s usually very expensive too so I wouldn’t be happy, it needs more fine highlights higher up and a warmer blonde toner so the there isn’t as much of a contrast. It’s lacking that gradient effect. How does the money piece look?

I don’t think you’ll get a full refund but hopefully she’ll give you something back.

Gymmum82 · 16/07/2024 21:40

The last photo looks photoshopped which is common on salon inspo pics. Yours looks fine. It just needs styling

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 16/07/2024 22:13

I manage social media for a hair salon and we would never, ever Photoshop pics. The work speaks for itself and doesn’t need tweaked. If you lived near me I would get you in there for a perfect balayage, OP!

HungryLittleCrocodile · 16/07/2024 22:16

Yes I do think it's a bit uneven, and not worth what a balayage would have cost. It just looks like roots growing out, but unevenly!

I would want a refund truth be told @Paigey97 !

Paigey97 · 16/07/2024 23:20

I'm paying money for my hair to look somewhat like the inspo pick and as you can see it's nothing like it. I've got patches throughout my hair, it's uneven and patchy all throughout especially under the top layer of hair. And the colour is nothing like I asked for. I've been to a salon today and they've agreed and advised me to ask for a refund which I didn't initially want to do as I felt bad and didn't want to upset anyone or get into any confrontation. Long story short I've spoken to the girl tonight and she was very apologetic and has since sent me a full refund so I've booked in elsewhere to have it fixed.

Well done for standing up for yourself and getting your refund.

I think your hair looks nice but I can see why you aren’t happy - it doesn’t look fresh, it looks like you’ve had balayage before and grown it out like a PP said!

This comment is mind boggling though, that she styled it like that! I am very bad at hair, but even I could do a better job styling my own hair. Bloody hell.
