Not a Cardi fan here, sorry! How about a light linen / denim jacket?

SpeculatingRooks · 14/07/2024 18:21

I would wear a long sleeve top under it. But I am no fashionista to be fair!

DisneyHag · 14/07/2024 18:22

FusilliGeri · 14/07/2024 18:41

How long is the top?

It's a dress

Linen might work
Can't wear denim at work

That's a shame about the denim, what a strange rule! I was going to suggest denim jacket as that would look so much better than a cardigan. A cardigan would need to be the right colour and length, but I can't picture what that would be! Sorry, I'm no help 🤣

RampantIvy · 14/07/2024 18:59

I wish cardigans weren't considered so frumpy, but I get cold in a dress without a cardigan. A jacket isn't usually warm enough and looks a little too formal at work.

The cardgan DisneyHag posted is the right shape. It would also look much better than a denim jacket.

Anothershapeofapple · 14/07/2024 19:23

OP I mean this in the nicest possible way but if you aren’t allowed to wear denim then are you allowed to wear such a short dress?

I just think if they’re strict about denim they could be strict about dress / skirt length too!

They aren't. Some cardigans are awful ; same as some everything else is awful.

These Markies ones are fine for the style of dress.

I don't think a cardi would work with a dress like that, but you could wear something underneath it.
It looks like a breezy summer dress designed to be worn with bare legs and a tan.

DisneyHag · 14/07/2024 19:36

Have to say it’s not a dress I would ever have chosen for work - isn’t it more a lounging in your garden dress?

(I only suggested that cardigan to brighten up any potential outfit …)

I still wear cardigans. I should have said I wish cardigans weren't considered so frumpy on mumsnet.

It depends what you do though. I wouldn't wear it is I was a High Court Judge but I'd wear it if I worked in a school, which I do. We cant wear denim at work either.

twentysevendresses · 14/07/2024 19:41

That's a tunic, not a dress! Unless you're under 5' tall, in which case crack on 👌🏻

WillYouDoTheFandango · 14/07/2024 19:50

This is a smarter one

they have this in several colours

I love a cardi

DisneyHag · 14/07/2024 19:51

@QuillBill - ha! Work-wise I’ve had to dress for court and for nursery school, and wouldn’t wear it for either. It’s just too holiday-ish for my idea of work clothes.

Exactly, I am short so not a tunic or a top!

I think it would have to be a long one, same length as the tunic. It wouldn't look any more smart than denim though. Workplaces can be unnecessarily weird about denim. Would non blue denim be any more allowed? Maybe cream or khaki and more of a cropped shirt?

Work wise I've had to dress for court and clearly no one is going to wear that dress to appear in court.

I wouldn't wear it to the office because I don't like it and I don't like animal print but I can't see any reason why that can't be worn in my office as long as the wearer wasn't meeting clients.

Whataretalkingabout · 14/07/2024 23:04

How about a jeans jacket style but in a different fabric, such as linen and maybe a non matching color, navy or white or rust?
