Clashing gold and silver/platinum rings? With pic!

Hi stylish ones,

I have always quite liked wearing both gold and silver toned jewellery together. I think I suit both (I’m blonde with blue eyes but warmer skin tone), so I don’t really have a strong preference. I suppose I prefer gold and see it as more timeless, but I’m aware it’s also more fashionable at the moment. All that said, my engagement and wedding rings are platinum.

DH would like to buy me an eternity ring for my next big birthday. I would quite like to stack this with my other rings on my ring finger. Would it be madness to opt for a gold setting? I’d stick to the same cut for the stones (emerald cut, channel/bezel set). Equally, would it be sensible to stick to diamonds, or could I go a bit wild with sapphires?

Obviously I realise I can choose whatever I like, but will it look silly? If anyone has a similar clashing set up would you be kind enough to share pictures?

pic of my rings attached to show current set up!

thanks everyone

Regardless of clashing I think your existing platinum rings would wear away at a gold one over time as platinum is harder.

This is an excellent point. Hmmmmn. I could wear gold on the o tho we hand but kind of wanted to give my current set up some oomph!

I also wear clashing metals, but if you want to add to your wedding stack I’d always go with platinum so it doesn’t wear. Or, do what I did and get something to wear on the other hand in the different metal!

i wouldn’t no

I don't think this is a huge concern really. My engagement ring is platinum and my wedding ring is white gold. They've been on my finger for ten years together and no wearing/damage to the gold at all.

When I got my eternity ring, I moved my wedding ring to my right hand.
I think your current set up looks fab, but would think that adding another ring with jewels in would look a bit much (nb - I’m not a fan of multiple rings on the same finger).

I would stick with the same colour metal but you could add some warmth with the stone colour.

Something subtle like this -

I think it depends on exactly how they fit together. My wedding and engagement rings have a small touch point and despite both being platinum there is considerable wear to the engagement ring after 25 years so I imagine it would have been a lot worse if one had been a softer metal. The jeweller will be able to advise you on that anyway.

Thanks everyone- I think I’m leaning towards a platinum setting - it makes sense to stick to the same metal.
