I went to my local mall today. All high street shops:
M&S, Next - cheap looking garish prints on cheap material
Mango - clothes to wear for a wedding maybe or long dresses and things with sleeves. It's summer !
Zara - ditto. Some of the stuff in there !! Who buys that !
Super dry/Jack Wills - both young
H&M - looked like a jumble sale. Lots of beige/brown and everything long line and baggy

I'm looking for summer clothes for holiday abroad in a hot county.

Mid 50s here. I like H&M and their sister brands like cos and other stories and especially Arket - but I much prefer shopping online because I can never navigate the shops - everything is too mixed up and if i do find something I like they never have my size (L/14 so nothing unusual).

You could try John Lewis or similar where you could check out lots of brands. Jigsaw, Hush, Hobbs, etc. you might also like Fat Face, Toast, Uniqlo, Anthropologie.

My recent summer purchases have been from Fat Face, Arket and jigsaw - though some of them off eBay/vinted.

Me+Em - expensive but good quality and I’d rather buy less/buy better.

I shop online …

Presumably your holiday is very smart? (I have decidedly grand tastes for home and work but don’t mind cheap stuff for holidays.)

Anyway -

Studio Nicholson has a sale at the moment. Nice plain pieces but probably more cotton than linen.

American Vintage - ditto. Much more cotton jersey. Very chic if it suits you.

Cos has seen a noticeable improvement this year. I’d still swerve the thin poplin but anything linen should be fine.

A Perfect Nomad - lots of floaty linen fit for huge spacious villas.

Massimo Alba - luxurious and conservative linens and cottons for grown up city strolling.

Happy shopping!
