Thought I'd found the perfect linen shirt

Now I'm not sure. Bought this from H&M, went to wear it today and I'm not sure about / dunno how to deal with the gaping bit in the arm.

Any suggestions that I'm missing? I put a beige coloured vest top on underneath as it was a bit see through but it's such a big gap at the arms I dunno what I'm meant to do.

It's a shame as apart from that it's loft and perfect for work in this hot weather.

Thought I'd found the perfect linen shirt

I'd just wear a really lovely bra with a good lace bit or similar on the side and style it out!

PumpkinSpicedTea · 25/06/2024 18:08

I'm not sure I'm brave enough to do this but something is going to have to be on show I think 😬

Agree it is gorgeous and I am now tempted BUT the side view of the model has it alllll on display. Reading the reviews, a fair few people have sewn the armholes up so they don't gape as much. I would have to pay for someone to do that 😕 but the shirt itself is good value so may be worth it??

WhereAreWeNow · 25/06/2024 18:39

I wouldn't worry about it. Just wear a decent bra and enjoy the breeze!

I didn't even read the comments or think of this! I'm very basic sewing skills (sew on Brownies badges 😂) so might have a look or I have got a dress at a seamstress just now so could ask her.

😂 Certainly will enjoy the breeze but don't think people will enjoy the view of my old bras 🤦🏻‍♀️

Will be lovely and cool to wear. Just wear a nice bra.

goingdownfighting · 25/06/2024 22:21

I'd wear a sports bra or bandeau bra with that.

MadameMassiveSalad · 25/06/2024 22:33

Buy a lemonade doll bralet top?

Yes. In punishing weather in the south of France last year I was impressed to see women of all ages wearing this sort of gaping top - all with black bandeau underwear casually displayed beneath. May not be cooler in terms of heat but definitely very cool style-wise.

PumpkinSpicedTea · 26/06/2024 09:31

Thanks ladies. Maybe it's not the top for me as I do not have the confidence for showing any type of bra underneath 🙈😂

But a bandeau isn’t like a bra at all - it’s just a band of black stretchy fabric. No straps or fastenings, pulled on over your head. Honestly, there were women in their 70s wearing them under linen tops or sleeveless vests. They don’t look like underwear.

AhBiscuits · 26/06/2024 09:54

I'm having this issue with so many tops atm. I'm just showing my bra, people will have to get over it 😄

I've had a look and see what you mean. I'm tempted now!! Thanks.

You can get bandeaus with built in support

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 26/06/2024 13:08

I've got a couple of Spanx sports bras which are quite longline and look more like crop running tops. I even wore one as a bikini top with ordinary black bikini bottoms on holiday. That sort of thing would be fine underneath as it looks more like another top than a bra and keeps all your bits well tucked in.

Garlicnaan · 26/06/2024 13:11

I usually wear a pretty patterned crop top under things like this and embrace the fact it shows. This is what I've got on today

I was wearing a dress like this today (from H&M too). Honestly don't worry about it. How often do you lift your arms up? I just wore a nice, plain bra and didn't give it a second thought. It's nice having a breeze round the armpits when it's this hot!

WhereAreWeNow · 26/06/2024 17:42

If it worries you and you don't need a lot of support, how about a Uniqlo bra vest in white?
