What does everything think of this dress for someone in their 50s. 5'7 between a size 12-14.

I find peach roses very dated so I wouldn’t wear it and I’m 56.

GiddyGingernut · 22/06/2024 15:32

This is beautiful! Perfect for all ages if I'm honest.

keeptryinggirl · 22/06/2024 15:33

a 70 year old could wear it and wouldn’t be
“too old” for it

IDontHateRainbows · 22/06/2024 15:33

It has 'nan's curtains ' vibes to me, sorry

greengreyblue · 22/06/2024 15:34

The print is a bit meh. Style of dress is fine . It would be so much better in a fresh blue linen/ white / red or stripes.

I think it would look better with longer sleeves, perhaps Angel sleeves, unless you have nice, toned upper arms.

henlake7 · 22/06/2024 15:37

Very pretty. I like the neck line.

Alainlechat · 22/06/2024 15:45

I've not worn dresses for ages but I've been on a health kick really and lost a couple of stone, now trying to find something that suits. All of a sudden feeling conscious of my age! Maybe another colour would be better than the peach retro curtain vibe.

That’s better and fresher op.

Supersimkin7 · 22/06/2024 15:54

You’ll look great. Yellow is excellent when it suits you.

MinnieCauldwell · 22/06/2024 16:41

I think puff sleeves and gingham look better on quite young women and girls. Think i would go for something a little more structured/tailored

henlake7 · 22/06/2024 16:46

Screw the naysayers OP.....wear what you want.

You only live once!

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 22/06/2024 17:57

It's not a case of too old / too young but that the peach floral isn't very nice. (Usual disclaimer, all subjective, each to their own, etc, etc.)

It's better in the teal spot or yellow gingham. Again each to their own but I don't like splits in that type of dress. It's as if the designer and wearer doesn't have the nerve to go full on Amish/Toast/ Little House on the Prairie (which personally I love) or the nerve to go full on sexy short skirt/ body con so goes for a combination of trying to put a sexy split in a Little House on the Prairie dress, which fails on both counts.

If you like it OP the gingham or the spots are nicer than the floral. I like floral but that's an insipid version.

The sleeves are fine, nothing wrong with puff sleeves - angel sleeves are (usual disclaimer of course) awful.

LadyWiddiothethird · 22/06/2024 18:03

Flowery patterns are everywhere this year, not dated at all and suitable for any age.Not keen on puff sleeves, good job we are all different.

Wear what you like OP and feel proud.

Sparkletastic · 22/06/2024 18:15

If yellow suits you then the 2nd one, although that slit is putting me off.

DBD1975 · 22/06/2024 19:16

I am in my sixties and think that dress is too old for me. Seriously it is hideous and just looks really dated to me. I am not a huge fan of dresses but this just looks matronly and will age you. I could have told you from the picture that dress was from Next.

I would go shorter and more fitted although propably not the best person to offer an opinion as I really do not like those sorts of dresses maybe because I was wearing them 40 years ago!

I agree. Unfortunately structured/tailored seems to be a rarity now.

UnpackingBooksFromBoxes · 22/06/2024 19:56

I’m 53, 5’7” size 12 and wear predominantly dresses, I wouldn’t wear either. They look like something my gran would wear. Sorry.

UnpackingBooksFromBoxes · 22/06/2024 20:10

Looking at Next summer dresses, I would go for these.
