Trousers for skinny boys

Where can I buy trousers for a skinny boy? My DS (8) is tall for his age but has to wear trousers for a younger child (so far too short!) because if I buy him 8 y/o trousers they just fall down. I've tried slim or skinny fit but it doesn't change the waist size. Please can somewhere recommend brands which lean towards small waists without also being short in the leg? 🙏

Bumping this as I was about to start a new thread with exactly the same question. I have a beanpole 9 yr old in 11-12 clothes and we're struggling.....!

School trousers or non-school?

MumEra2024 · 09/09/2024 21:19

lots of H&M trousers have adjustable waists.

Abercrombie and Fitch were a game changer for my beanpole.

They do different leg lengths etc. I measured inside leg etc etc and followed their website and all pairs worked well.

Jeans that is. School trousers, I would just go to M&S, size down but go for the longest length.

I have a very skinny six year old and have found the only casual trousers that seem to fit him these days are from Boden. I stock up when they have a sale on! M&S skinny school trousers are just about ok but their jeans and joggers are too big on him. Next skinny jeans can be ok, H&M always seem to be massive although I see them recommended on here a lot.

Zara used to work for my skinny, long-legged boy.

You're a slave to the adjustable waist.

Now my skinny boys are older I'll buy them women's joggers that look unisex. An XS will have a small waist and long legs.

H&M for adjustable waist jeans trousers etc
if school trousers - next skinny fit have adjustable waists

Mine is a girl but I find generally Benetton waists are on the smaller side, and George at Asda is completely random so some stuff is huge and other much slimmer so if you can trawl through or try on there might be bits there.

Other options are jeans/trousers with belt loops and a belt.

We often find things with adjustable waists and drawstring waists that aren't too huge in Next too.

I do think it's inevitable with slim children that you have to really trawl everything and check loads of different shops and items as now and then a random one will be inexplicably a much slimmer waist and fit ok unexpectedly.

Jack and Jones cargo trousers have been great for my tall, very slim son:

Next chinos have adjustable waist. Primark do the adjustable waist too.

If it's school trousers both m&s and Asda do an extra long, slim fit.

I also find sportswear more forgiving, Nike does some super slim tracksuit bottoms and the tech fleece stuff is also quite slim fitting.

Thanks everyone super helpful. Mainly non school as M&S slim waist seems OK for uniform. Will try some of these ideas. Currently trying to source some waterproof overtrousers - none of them have an adjustable waist!
