A suit for dd1 aged 11 - any ideas where to look?

We are going to a wedding at the beginning of June, when dd1 will be 11. She is currently about 148 cm tall, and slim. She has asked to wear a suit (ie jacket and trousers!) = she is not a girly girl and would be terribly uncomfortable in a skirt or dress. I've really no idea where to start looking for one - any ideas? Budget very limited (unsurprisingly )

Thank you ...

Have a quick look at the Mila Blue range on the Vertbaudet website Miaou, and also A l'Heure Anglaise on La Redoute

They both do formalwear for weddings and I think that includes culottes/smart trousers for girls...

has link worked?

Miaou · 08/04/2008 14:38

No worrybum, she wouldn't entertain pink
She wants black , I am trying to talk her round to navy at least!

Will check out links now, thank you

I love this but think she would prefer this - can't find any trousers to go with, though.

Worrybum, that suit is lovely, shame about the colour!

She might like the black suit from Next though I guess ...

Waistcoats are the height of fashion now so i'm told. If you can't find a suitable trouser suit what about teaming some trousers with a waitcoat and a nice white blouse underneath? just an idea.

MrsBadger · 08/04/2008 14:49

cool jacket here if you could find trousers

915 in New Look someimes has good things too

MrsBadger · 08/04/2008 14:51

oh BHS has waistcoat and matching trous

Miaou · 08/04/2008 14:55

That's nice Mrs B, but she won't wear anything remotely girly - I think I'm being optimistic about getting her into a girl's suit even, she would much prefer a boy's one!

Trousers and waistcoat a v. good idea - though I have two boys who will probably be in trousers and waistcoat - but never mind. (Plus another dd who if she had her way would be dressed something like Cinderella at the ball )

call me silly, but would (eg) the fitted school blazer from Next and theri wide leg trous work?

Miaou · 08/04/2008 15:09

Oh yes! That's a thought.

Just having a look on ebay too (why do I never think of that first?) - some possibilities there.

And she reckons she's not fussy . Unlike dd2 - as long as it has frills and flounces, she doesn't care

Black too funereal, I think. Could you get away with some wide-legged linen trousers and a vaguely matching jacket? How about navy or sand-coloured? GAP might be the place, if you could reach one?

Miaou · 08/04/2008 15:13

Navy is definitely my preferred option frogs - I think she would be the only one in black otherwise (I think I have a goth in the making - eek!). Nearest GAP about 250 miles away, sadly

Arf at goth -- is there a goth scene in north Scotland? Bet there is, they get everywhere. Just make sure you hide the black eyeliner.

frogs · 08/04/2008 15:17

How about the first trousers and jacket on here Miaou? Black or ivory only, tho, but can't squeak at the price.

frogs · 08/04/2008 15:21

Or this from ebay?

Miaou · 08/04/2008 15:23

OH God yes frogs - up here you are a goth or a ned (think High School Musical). The goths are winning though (I think that's down to the fact that high school uniform is black from head to toe )

Will check links - back in a mo

I think womens' stuff will be too big for her frogs - tried her in a size 8 petite suit of mine and it's too long in the arms

Ah, okay. Maybe something from the Mila Blue range at vertbaudet, then? The boys' range has some quite nice 3/4 length trousers with loose linen jackets in sandy colours. The website is hopeless to link to, but if you search for Mila Blue or look at the web catalogue you can see the type of thing. Not very goth-y though, more the French notion of Le Style Anglais (always makes me laugh, that...).
