Vinted: Buyer wants to Return

Does anyone know how to resolve this please? I have sold a bag on Vinted. The buyer is now claiming it is smelling very strongly of detergent.

I have only had the bag 6-8 weeks. I live in a smoke and pet free home. I am allergic to perfume. It's been stored in a dust bag in a cupboard. She says it smells like it has been cleaned. I have not cleaned it as it has been used a handful of times.

Does anyone know how this will be resolved and if I have to accept the return?

Thanks

How much was the bag? Did you send it in a cheap grey mailing sack, as if so they stink?

Just send something like this ….

Hello,
Im sorry you are not happy with the bag. It has definitely not been cleaned and there was no smell when it was sent. Occasionally postage materials do make the contents smell when it is in transit. so I would suggest airing the bag outside in order for any smell to dissipate.

Many thanks

If they request a refund and Vinted agree then message to say:

Vinteds rules are that the buyer pays for return postage in all cases so it might be better for you to sell on.

If she raises an issue on Vinted then reply to Vinted to say it was as described and “smells” are a known scam people use as it cannot be proved.

If she does return then they cannot leave feedback. If she keeps it she can leave bad feedback (but then so can you).

You don't have to accept the return but Vinted might refund her anyway if she's raised an issue. You might as well have it back so you can re-sell it.

You might already know this but unless she specifically asks and you agree, she will have to pay the postage to return it.

Thank you for your comments. These are really helpful. I hope Vinted will be sensible - I honestly would not send something in poor condition

What happened in the end OP? I am now in a similar position with the buyer claiming she doesn't like the colour of the jacket and wanting to return it even though it was described correctly
