To paint and not to paint fingernails?

I don't like gel nails, had them once and they wrecked my own nails so I now do my own.

I had a manicure two weeks ago which has really sorted my nails out and made them look good. I love nail polish but am wary of putting it on now as prior to the manicure it made my nails split. I've just been using clear basecoat since.

But looking at the lovely Essiie colours in Boots today has made me want to wear coloured polish again, though I do mainly go for nudes as it makes the chips look less obvious. I do wear polish on my toe nails in summer though.

What are your opinions on this, bare or coloured finger nails?

Think either can look lovely as long as painted nails aren't too long or chipped etc. Love the look of totally natural, clean and neat nails though.

I get biosculpture instead of regular gel now which has massively improved my nail health + growth, definitely worth a try. I wouldn’t even consider putting regular polish on my fingernails to be honest. Takes too long just to chip and look rubbish in an instant! Natural nails are gorgeous and so classy if they’re well looked after though.

I think the trick to traditional polish is having a very good top coat. I use OPI and it really extends the wear of polish, I do like Sally Hansen polishes; they are not too expensive, and they last quite well.

I like a coloured polish. Makes me feel more 'polished' and put together.

I like Dior Nail Glow for nude nails with a bit of shine. My nails are quite soft, so it protects them too.

I use cuticle oil daily and it's transformed my nails completely. Polish doesn't harm them at all anymore so it may be worth a try.
