I am rubbish with hair and can only see it is Wrong without knowing how to put it Right

She's had the same style for at least the last 20 years and I think it's got too severe, especially as she's no longer a headmistress who needs to put the Fear into reckless schoolboys.

here she is with some miscellaneous salad items.

Any ideas welcome...

she is fantastically glam

I think she needs a slightly shorter bob with a long fringe that she can have sweeping to one side

and some highlights

Enid · 08/04/2008 09:49

loving the lettuce

leeks more flattering as one gets to un certain age though

EffiePerine · 08/04/2008 09:49

Maybe a more structured bob? Even a fringe?

southeastastra · 08/04/2008 09:49

she is very glam and young! yes a nice sweeping fringe or soft layers around the sides

SheikYerbouti · 08/04/2008 09:49

Mrs B, am I still OK to send you a cheque for the
Waitrose bu.m .3c0re21am0?1?
3.

Have no idead about the hair, sorry

Anna8888 · 08/04/2008 09:49

I have a fantastic hairdresser who would be great for an older lady here in Paris . You can put your hair in his scissors, IYSWIM, and he will make her look her very best.

If you want to bring her over for the day I can give you details.

maidamess · 08/04/2008 09:50

Coo, isn't she trim! I think i soft angled fringe but the rest of the bob the same. the scraped back look is a little severe, I agree. Lovving the misc. salad items.

Dropdeadfred · 08/04/2008 09:51

Your mum has an enviable figure!!!

I think the basic length and style is good but as she gets older and hair thins the 'brushed back off face' seems harsh.
Could she ask her hairdresser to change her parting to the side slightly and cut in a sweeping side fringe?
That way is she really hated it she could always use a hair slide to hold it off her face wilst working/gardening etc but could have it sled down for going out etc

SheikYerbouti · 08/04/2008 09:51

Ooops, DS2 helped me with last post

Think your mum needs some more hair around her face for def

Telklher she has a lettuce on her face as well. That's not a good look

Dropdeadfred · 08/04/2008 09:51

maidamess · 08/04/2008 09:55

Thats lovely enid

Anna8888 · 08/04/2008 09:57

Gorgeous Enid.

I'm thinking of having a Carla Bruni type fringe cut....

Enid · 08/04/2008 09:58

yes I have dithered

(whilst swooing over carla)

but I have a cowslick thing so fringe not really option

Anna8888 · 08/04/2008 10:01

Yes, I have cowslick too, which means that my hair has a side/central "parting". But fringe still possible, I think...

Enid · 08/04/2008 10:02

yes have had long sweeping one

MUST have hair done
MUST have hair done
MUST have hair done
MUST have hair done
MUST have hair done
MUST have hair done

EffiePerine · 08/04/2008 10:03

I too have considered the fring option, but I have to remind myself that every time I've had a fringe I've really regretted it .

Anna8888 · 08/04/2008 10:04

Must have hair done, too.

Will make appointment NOW

MrsBadger · 08/04/2008 10:10

oh thank you all

I think the side parting and swept fringe are just what's needed (like a grown-up Petits Filous girl)

Anna I may take you up on that as she does jetset about Europe a bit

(and she is a gym bunny, which helps with the figure )

OP posts:
Bluebutterfly · 08/04/2008 10:13

Maybe some very subtle highlights too?

Enid · 08/04/2008 10:15

she has a great forehead

how old? botox?

MrsBadger · 08/04/2008 10:34

no botox
but not that old (gymslip bride )

highlights are a sore point because she makes a point of having it dyed Her Natural Colour and kidding herself the grey never happened

will suggest

OP posts:
Enid · 08/04/2008 10:47

she can have it dyed AND have a few highlights put in

MrsBadger · 08/04/2008 10:51

she worries the highlights will make it obvious it has been dyed.

then other people will KNOW she has GREYS

OP posts:
Enid · 08/04/2008 10:53

well ok

leave the colour then if it is an ishoo

it does look nice anyway
