I came across this dress and love it, but googled Nuovo and they have terrible reviews on trustpilot.

Can anyone help me find something similar? I like the vaguely Frida Kahlo-ish vibe.

And if anyone wants to give me more general styling advice that would be welcome! I'm 48, 10-12, 5'6". Small bust. Several missing toe nails which must be hidden.

Op, the closest I could find is this, in the heart colour way. but obviously it’s a sundress, you could however wear a small cashmere cardigan or short jacket over it.

I've seen that dress before. It's a blatant rip off of Alémais and I think an almost exact copy of a previous season's dress. Alémais is a genuine, beautiful brand. Harvey Nick's and Liberty stock them.

I came here to say Farm Rio & Alemais but the style gurus already have it pinned down!

Iloveeverycat · 15/06/2024 10:04

If it was me I would risk buying it for that price if you really like it. You never know what the quality will be like though. I see they are in the Netherlands so wouldn't be too bad to return. Pay by PayPal.

Iloveeverycat · 15/06/2024 10:09

These from Sainsbury's are great and comfortable. I wore them all day and evening for a wedding.

My God - saw the photo and recognised an Alemais dress. I’ve never heard of the brand you mention, @menohnopausal, so don’t know their price bracket.

Why not look for a genuine Alemais dress pre-owned? Or rent one? (Assuming you don’t want to pay the full price.)

MetaDaughter · 15/06/2024 11:53

That is truly depressing.

No wonder genuine craftsmanship and design is collapsing everywhere if such blatant theft is so widespread.

What I’m curious about is how the photos give the impression that a £20 polyester dress is pure linen …

Really wish I hadn’t seen this thread. Angry

This is funny/ not funny but the dress on this thread has popped up several times when I've searched Alémais. The first time I almost tagged you as I knew you'd be outraged too.

(Not as stalkerish as that sounds- we'd been discussing Alémais)

minipie · 15/06/2024 12:16

Seconding the Anthropologie recommendation, they have quite a few dresses with a similar vibe

JackieGoodman · 15/06/2024 12:19

Its the same one that OP had posted, I agree (I don't know Alemais) it is clearly a blatant rip off but if OP is going to buy a rip off she should get it as cheaply as possible. And agree, they must be using pics of the real dress as there's no way the dress in the pics is polyester/elastene.

But, also very surprised on looking at genuine Alemais, they are "made in China" Hmm

MetaDaughter · 15/06/2024 12:22
Grin

I’m at fault though … I’ve been blasé for decades about knock-off Nike trainers and Louis Vuitton handbags because I had no interest in the genuine items. (The genuine brands seemed rich enough to cope and I had the impression the fakes only increased interest in the real.) But when it’s a brand I currently adore …

I have no real idea if their degree of independence or financial stability, but I hope they’re not damaged by the thriving bastards stealing their work.

(Sorry, interrupted, was replying to @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle; definitely not laughing at ‘made in China’.)

MetaDaughter · 15/06/2024 12:33

Good grief!

of their financial stability.

thieving bastards …

Ooh loads of great replies! Can't wait to read in more detail later. Thank you!

Totally agree about the outrageousness of so blatantly ripping off another designer btw.

And yes, thickness of the fabric was one of the things I found appealing.

MetaDaughter · 15/06/2024 15:09

Ask yourself if that’s really what you think you’ll be getting for £20 …

beetr00 · 15/06/2024 15:15

agree with pp's suggesting Alemais.

You could rent @menohnopausal?
