Finding My Style: A Call for Help in Choosing Clothes for a Slim Build

The past few years have been a real challenge for me due to the issue of being underweight. Despite numerous consultations with specialists and reading countless articles, I haven't found an effective solution. At a height of 176 cm (5'9"), my weight is only 50 kg (110 lbs), which gives me a "sickly thin" appearance rather than a "supermodel" look.

My Problem

I am a very active person; I exercise and strive to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately, my weight remains low, and my body looks too thin. In everyday life, I prefer simplicity and comfort—jeans and t-shirts. However, sometimes I want to look more stylish and modern without sacrificing comfort.

Seeking Advice and Share Your Experience

I am reaching out to everyone who faces a similar problem for help and advice. What style of clothing is best suited for a slim build? What cuts, fabrics, and patterns help create a more balanced and harmonious look? What accessories can complement my style?

If you have had a similar experience and found successful solutions, please share them! What brands and stores do you prefer? How do you choose clothes to feel confident and comfortable? Any tips and recommendations would be extremely helpful.

I believe that together we can create a community where we share style discoveries and support each other. Your advice and experiences can help me and many others facing this issue.

If you are willing to share your thoughts and ideas, please leave comments or contact me directly.

Thank you to everyone who responds and shares their experiences!

Other than leading a community towards salvation - what is it that you actually want, in terms of clothes? Looking more stylish and modern without sacrificing comfort, and more balanced and harmonious is a bit vague, and not really distinct from the aims of anyone else choosing clothes.

Do you want to look fatter as if you have more flesh on your bones?

Or do you just want a change from jeans and t shirts?

I’m not sure there is any particular style that best suits a slim build. People’s tastes vary so it’s probably more helpful to focus on you. What sort of lifestyle do you need to dress for, and what’s your budget?

Also, if you’re looking to turn comments posted here into an article or book - people will just be very annoyed indeed.

Your posting style is very, er, AI, OP.

I've read a lot of articles about clothing styles for skinny people. They all recommend layering. Wear voluminous items, long sleeves and trousers, with ruffles on blouses. I'm not entirely happy with this. And I would like to know the opinion of those who had such a problem and who solved it. Just an example or advice. Nothing else.

Sorry about that. I'm sorry it looks like this. My job involves writing a huge amount of documentation. Perhaps this is the reason.
I'm new to the forum and don't know what format you want to see messages in. Perhaps I had an idea to gather people with the same problem as me. People can quickly ridicule problems if they are not yours. Is not it?

Why not browse a couple of dozen threads on the Style and Beauty board - and maybe join some conversations and get a feel for the tenor of the site?

You’ll also find that people discuss their particular size / weight / height concerns in every single thread - so you may find the discussions interesting and helpful.

Maybe this will work! I didn't think about it, that I could find answers for myself in cross threads. I tried to do only a direct search on the problem.

(Essentially, it’s not that you shouldn’t start a thread about your particular issue - that’s perfectly normal - it’s just that your opening post (OP) is slightly off-putting.)

You could try watching Justine Leconte on YouTube. She has lots of advice on dressing for all body shapes.

Hidinginbed · 14/06/2024 13:08

I love Justine Leconte! She seems so nice and I love her accent and that she smiles a lot - one of my favourite YouTubers. She has loads of good advice on style and dressing well generally.

spotddog · 14/06/2024 13:32

Would either of the Middleton sisters style suit you? Both are slim and sporty and also dress for many different occasions so lots of options to see.

Are you aware you can buy knickers with padding? A flat bottom makes it difficult for clothes to hang correctly. You're better with more than less in that area.

crowgift · 14/06/2024 14:35

How do you want to look - the suggestions you mention are to add a little shape/bulk (layers, volume). is there anyone whose style you admire?
When you say specialists do you mean medical specialists or stylists?
Your active lifestyle: do you over exercise to maintain thinness? (Speaking as someone whose mother did this while I was growing up). I think you should push to find out why you are underweight in case there is an underlying undiagnosed health issue.
