Ideas sought for a dress...

DH and I off for first night away since having dd (3+ years) next weekend and I've also recently lost some weight so none of my going out stuff fits (hoorah). So, ideas required for a dress for a night out.

Details - am 5 ft, size 10

kneelengthish I think would be best. Not too dressy. I probably have shoes suitable for most things.

Please help ! Have had flu this last week so feeling too weak and pathetic to look .

When you say 'going out', what sort of thing - clubbing, dinner, pub?

JackieNo · 06/04/2008 18:52

Oh yes, and all the usual details too please - norks or not, best bits, bits that have to be covered, budget?

Wheelybug · 06/04/2008 18:57

Sorry -

Out = Dinner at smartish restaurant but in Rye so not uber-posh.

Have Norks which probably are my best bit, legs aren't great (and short), upper arms not ideal but probably ok to be shown since weight loss. Have a waist.

budget... hmmm.... flexible ....

Hmm, maybe something like this, or this, but both linen, so maybe a bit daytimey.
This is gorgeous, and would show off norks well.
similar shape, but with a less defined waist
Any of those appeal?

PatsyCline · 06/04/2008 19:55

How about this? I think that it would show off your bust and emphasis your waist.

Or for something more casual:

It is still waist defining/bust flattering and would look great with knee-length boots.

Last but not least - very pretty and would make a great dress for summer.

I like the colour on this one
simple and classic
Again beautiful colours
Quite summery
with sleeves.

Wheelybug · 06/04/2008 20:52

ooh thanks gals.

Right -

JackieNo's first selection
1&2 - like these in style but agree Linen not ideal (esp. as I manage to make it look more creased than most)

  1. Love the style but not the colour
  2. love style, not colour or shinyness

Patsy

  1. Not sure about bow
  2. Interesting...might risk ordering this at £30 but any ideas on sizing ? Also it appears to say its red but it looks purple to me ?!
  3. Agree v. pretty - a bit too summery though I think at the mo but will deffo bear it in mind for a summer wedding.

Jackie's second lot

1-3 a bit shiny
4 a bit summery (Am concerned by the snow we've had today to do too summery)

  1. My first reaction was no, a bit too 'cute' but not sure now... it might grow on me...

Thanks for looking - will consider a couple of these (also going to go through the wardrobe to check I don't have anything that would work...). Any more ideas gratefully received too !

OK -
Black, with sleeves?

JackieNo · 06/04/2008 21:00

Maybe
Not sure.

eternalstudent · 06/04/2008 21:04

That flowery Oasis one is nice, but a word of warning, there is FAR too much material in the sleeve. I have one in diff colour and the sleeves stick out. If you cou;d take em in a bit...

JackieNo · 06/04/2008 21:16

Maybe?
This is pretty.
Again, not sure
pretty

Wheelybug · 06/04/2008 21:27

ooh now of those- I think I like the ghost prairie dress but not sure about the pebble, the only one that comes in a 10- Any idea what the sizing is like ? If small, a 12 might be ok and then I have a choice....

(thanks again !)

JackieNo · 06/04/2008 21:31

This is pretty too, but £££.
Black again
I quite like this, but not sure whether it comes with the belt or not.

JackieNo · 06/04/2008 21:31

No, sorry, don't know about the sizing. Good reductions though, aren't they.

Wheelybug · 06/04/2008 21:57

Great reductions .... I see they have some measurements on the site -will have a measure tomorrow and see. I don't have any brown shoes to go with the brown one (..wonders about further shopping opportunity...)...

You know the gorgeous pale pink Ghost one, do you think it'd suit someone with really quite fair skin and dark hair or make me look washed out?
Sorry for thread hijack!

PatsyCline · 07/04/2008 09:18

Hi MNA,

I have similar colouring and I look truly awful in that shade. Sorry.

Patsy

PatsyCline · 07/04/2008 09:21

Hi Wheelybug,

The House of Fraser one looks distinctly purple to me too! There is an email/phone help line under customer service - could you ask them to check the colour before you order?

Patsy

MNersanonymous · 07/04/2008 13:16

Patsy - honesty is best - that's why I was hesitating - I think with very fair skin the colour of clothing can't be too similar.
