Hair extensions tomorrow- any tips or must have products?

I'm having nano tips applied tomorrow to thicken out and lengthen my fine premenopausal hair which won't grow past shoulder length.
I've looked at the advice regarding maintenance appointments and how to look after them as I'm keen to make sure they stay in good condition.
Just after any tips or specific products that those of you with extensions may have used please?

OGX shampoo and conditioner. I have tried many different sulphate free products and have found these to be the best and are also well priced. Use lots of conditioner to keep the hair in good condition. Brush through twice a day and put in a plait for sleeping. Always blow dry, don’t leave to dry naturally. Use an appropriate hair brush that doesn’t catch- I use the ghd oval brush but a tangle teezer is also good.

Before you go, wash your hair but don't put an conditioner near the roots, just the bottom third only. Use heat protector & straighten before you go.

I had hair extensions few months ago, just at the sides, menopause had made them thin. Mine are nano beads, just past my shoulders. I absolutely love them, best money I've ever spent on myself.
I use Tarti shampoo and conditioner, a special brush for extensions and always hear protector before drying.
I hope you are thrilled with them - I am, they've changed my life! You will soon get used to washing your hair etc - I was scared they were going to fall out at first but now they just feel like my normal hair. Love them 💕

Pls post some before and after pics, OP!

MissAtomicBomb1 · 01/06/2024 22:22

Great tips! Thanks all. Will take a pic in the morning & post the before & after pics. Really excited but also a bit nervous in case I don't like the feel of them (also about what others will say as guessing the difference in length & thickness will be noticeable!)

Denman D81S Small Finishing Brush with Mixed Bristle

!!

Post pics. I’ve had extensions for 4 years and had them out the last 6 months. My hair is a lot healthier, they do knacker your hair ! But at the same time I miss them so much. I loved my extensions, even if my hair was down and straight it wasn’t flat and “dull” !

enjoy !

Thanks, that's what I'm hoping for! I have to put a massive amount of effort into styling my natural hair as it's so flat/frizzy & doesn't hold a style for more than a few hours. Hoping the extensions will help.

I had extensions for years but then Covid ended that. I loved them but hated the expense. I slept on a silky pillow case to minimize torsion - you should try it! Enjoy.

Invest in some shine spray, your extensions have no natural oil & can get dry & brittle. Invest in some covered pony tail bands or scrunchies, you need to plait your hair at night or you wake up looking like a birds nest & it's a nightmare trying to get the knots out, also buy a tangle teaser or Head Jog main tamer brush to use to keep your hair knot free. Keep a zip lock bag in your handbag to put any odd bond that comes out tangle free so you can have it refitted at your maintenance appointment.

MissAtomicBomb1 · 02/06/2024 14:37

Ta-dah!
Love them! They feel much more natural than I thought & not at all heavy. The length is going to take some getting used to but I can have it trimmed if I decide it's too long.

Ooh lovely, OP! They look great.

DirtyDensDog · 05/06/2024 16:42

Your hair looks fab. Can I be rude and ask how much you paid. I would love hair like that.

With fitting the extensions came to £320.
They are Remy nano rings. I think the tape in ones are cheaper.
I also needed my own hair highlighting and the roots touching up first so that was extra.
Apparently they should last around a year but will need removing & refitting approx every 2-3 months which will cost £100.
Won't have to pay for haircuts though!

Hi everyone,
I am hoping to get extensions for my wedding next year. I am looking for recommendations in Dublin so I can arrange a consultation. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you 😊

Kitkate21 · 06/04/2025 22:13

I always get a trim at maintenance apps. I have tapes. And need an appointment every 8 weeks. I absolutely love the beauty works 10 in 1. Leave in conditioner it's amazing for hair when it's wet. As little heat as possible. I love mine.
