How to you cleanse your face?

I've got very dry skin and have recently stopped using facial wipes as they're making it worse.
Trouble is, I live in a very hard water area so using a cleanser and then rinsing it off is not helping either.
Is there any alternative?
Miscellar water for very dry skin?
Is there such a thing?
I've recently bought some erase your face cloths which are great but at a loss to know what cleanser to use with them?
I'm not sure miscellar water would work with the cloths?
I'm lost. Help!!

I use Elemis pro-collagen cleansing balm and a clean flannel - I double cleanse.

Or, I use Dermalogica pre-cleanse followed by their cleansing gel. Clean flannel per day.

I rate Emma Hardie cleansing balm as it doesn’t strip the skin . I’d buy a water filter jug to take the hardness out.

@MaryFuckingFerguson thanks. Do you need to use water to rinse though?

Since I switched to oil cleansing my skin has massively improved. I use jojoba oil and wipe it off with a warm damp cloth. It’s not great for everyone but so good for me, I have combination skin so oily but also dry and prone to flakiness on my nose. There is a bit of a purge phase which isn’t fun but now my skin is clear and (I think) looks great.

I wet a flannel and wring out until dry-ish.

@ru53 oh that's interesting, I hadn't thought of oil, makes sense.

CeraVe oil cleanser is great for dry skin.
I used to double cleanse but found it stripped my already dry prone to soreness skin. Now I sometimes take my make up off with a Clarins milky cleanser and a pad, or use the CeraVe.

I use faith in nature body lotion to wash my face, seems to work well. With a muslin cloth. Good for dry skin but I don’t use foundation

Poachedeggavocado · 20/05/2024 20:28

I installed a water softener which is really good but I double cleanse each evening with a vit c oil and then cerave with a facecloth in tepid water. New facecloth daily. Just bung them in the washing machine. Then serum, moisturiser, retinol or glycolic then rose oil on top.

Can you get a filter jug and use the water once it’s been through that? I find actual washing and rinsing is much better than anything that wipes off. That said, I don’t have dry skin.

I normally double cleanse even if I haven’t worn makeup. I use sqaulane cleanser from The Ordinary for my first and a Rovectin cleanser for the second. Both of those are really gently and good for the skin barrier.

Any cleanser and cotton pads to remove eye make up.
Run a make up remover cloth under the hot tap, clean my face with that.
Spray with rice water, let dry a bit.
Moisturise with blue nivea.

twiddlingthumbs69 · 20/05/2024 21:08

@BeretRaspberry very good idea! I have got a brita filter kettle so I'll try it. I never thought of that....genius!!😀

Elemis cleansing balm at night, massage on with wet fingers, wipe off with a muslin cloth dipped in warm water, removes my eye makeup too.
Mornings just the muslin and water.

Another one recommending oil and hot cloth OP!

I use Kinvara, their products are natural and it feels like a luxurious facial taking my makeup off up off every evening!

And a little goes a long way so a bottle could last me 3 months, and I wear a lot of makeup every day.
