Partings- off center or center parting?

Stressedgiraffe · 19/05/2024 09:40

I've had an off centre parting since I was a teenager gulp about 30 years.
I think it suits me but my teenage dd says it's dated and makes me look older.
She suggests a centre parting as its more fashionable . I'm getting my hair done this week so think it might be time for a change.
What do mn think?

I’ve always had an off centre parting but started parting it in the middle a year or two ago for the same reasons. I’ve gone back to sideways as it just suits me more and at 40 I don’t think however I wear my hair is going to be cool or trendy anymore 🤣

I'm early 60s and had my side parting since I was 15. I look odd with a centre parting, like a 70s pop star.

Ive done my hair in a centre parting today and will ask dh when he's back from walking the dogs as he's brutally honest.
I'd like a bit of a change but scared the last time I went for a change of hairstyle I ended up looking like "Dora the explorer "

I do both! My hair is long and pretty thick so easy to flip around. I don't think side is dated, and sometimes I feel a bit 'witchy' with a middle parting 😅

Middle hard to pull off!

Ineedaholidayyyy · 19/05/2024 09:52

I do remember side partings being a lot more popular in the early 2000s, the side parting with long sweeping fringe was a trend..Having said that, even if it is "dated' some people suit a side parting more than a centre one. Your hair won't sit quite right in a side parting unless it's cut based on the centre part. I'd say give it a try, you can just go back to the side parting if you don't like it!

I've always just gone with where my hair parts naturally, slightly off centre, doesn't it feel really uncomfortable to be forced to fall elsewhere?

ThePoshUns · 19/05/2024 09:57

I always feel I look like Neil from the Young Ones with a centre parting.

Same. My natural parting is very strong. Even thinking about forcibly moving it makes my scalp sad. I strongly suspect my slightly wonky, off-centre parting is not making me look older Hmm

Can’t say I go around noticing where other people part their hair either.

Regardless of what is currently fashionable, a middle parting doesn't suit me. I have quite a pronounced widow's peak and cowlick and I just don't like how a middle parting looks on me. Plus my natural parting is to the side and I'm not arsed about forcing it to the centre.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 19/05/2024 12:22

Always had an off centre parting then I saw a very unflattering photo of my massive forehead. Centre parting all the way now

elevens24 · 19/05/2024 12:24

I have long thick hair and wear it in middle, slightly side and heavily side (both sides) depending on mood and overall styling.

OliveHenry · 19/05/2024 12:25

Centre parting every time - I feel lopsided with a side parting! Need a fringe though to avoid the Neil look 😂

Nellieinthebarn · 19/05/2024 12:26

I can't do a centre parting, I look like Professor Snape.

psuedocream3 · 19/05/2024 13:43

Side partings generally look much better on most people, GenZ seem to favour the middle parting and I'm assuming your daughter is GenZ, but I think it's only 'fashionable' if you are in that generation personally.

Oh god me too. Hairdresser insists it's a natural middle I just get her to move it. I always feel my hair looks flat and greasy in the middle.
