I've always thought I had thin lips* but I actually think I was choosing the wrong shades and colours for me. Rather than some suit thinner lips or fuller.

Can you get to a store and get some advice on colour from a counter? I think naturally I thought less bold colours suit me but I actually it's a mixture. I'm cool seasoned colouring so nudes and corals etc don't suit me for example. But muted reds and berries suit but equally strong magenta and scarlet do iyswim.

  • I mean yes I do have thin ish lips but that's not the issue.

A tiny amount of filler or a lip lift is worth considering, if done at a reputable clinic.

Choose a pinky nude colour

RookieMa · 13/05/2024 19:09

And use a lip pencil on and just over your lip line

Lots of people just use lip liner as their lipstick

At least clowns look happy ( ok I know some aren't )
I look like a drag queen if I try to do the outside the line trick

If I do wear lipstick then liner pencil , lipstick , blot repeat light layer lipstick .
I have no defined lip-line now , but no lines roun my lip area

Ahh, I think you should just embrace having thin lips! Lots of us have them (including me). Lip liner is your friend though, rather than lipstick.

Pencil-type cream base tone all over, slightly lighter/brighter with a bit of iridescence on the centre where light would hit, gloss on top; creates greater depth and fullness.

No overlining or needles required.

I feel like with delicately shaped lips you can get away with bright or deep colours and it looks great, especially if you have (or create) a defined cupid’s bow. I have big but fairly shapeless lips and every time I put on a vivid colour of lipstick i end up wiping it off before i leave the house because i think i look like a cross between a clown and a porn star.

It’s when the thin lips turn into no lips , it’s a problem!

Mine look thinner with lipstick straight from the bullet but if I line - not quite over line but just define and blot the colour with my finger then it looks better.

RookieMa · 14/05/2024 00:49

This sort of nude yellow pink colour works well

I have thin lips and the first time I put on matte red lipstick I was very very unsure about it. But now I love wearing dark colours and my lips haven’t got any fatter.
To start off, try some sheer lipsticks or lip gloss. Clinique has a great range of colourful glosses. Chiffon and Brûlée are great nudes if you are pale/fair. Apple is a soft red, great to practise wearing red.

Sunshineboo · 14/05/2024 05:37

i have thin lips and i like charlotte tilburys pillow talk. it's a pinky nude - there are lip pencils and lipsticks. it looks like my
lips only better.

I agree with those saying darker or bolder colours. Have a look at 1920s makeup, with small but defined cupid's bows and strong colours.

God no, don’t do this OP. It always looks dreadful and you have to keep doing it. I know a few women who do this and think it looks great and natural. It doesn’t.

The key is the right colour (perhaps a more muted or natural shade) and in particular lip liner under the lipstick and very, very, slightly around the lip line. Go to a make up counter and ask for help. I bet your lips aren’t even that thin, it’s just a weird beauty standard that people are following at present.

I wasn’t going to do it myself, I’d be scared of it going wrong. Re the lip lift op- I’ve seen a few presenters have had that done, and some don’t look bad , but others have strange Cupid’s bows
